sadly warranty runs out at 12k on the clutch..
Check out Scottsdale Supercars, theres a link in my sig, we just upgraded the clutch on our resident 2.0 DBC to 1.8t DBW swap.

My buddy's 1.8t blew up on him on the highway. turns our that there's a gear that has a pin that will sometimes come out and allow a gear to fall around inside the tranny. VW guy says he see's 2 a year like that. Anyway, this happened at around 19k miles, so the warranty covered a new tranny and a new clutch for him! Plus he got to sport a Trailblazer for a week while the stealership had it.

Contact Karls Custom VW. They just did a stage one for Faststang70. One day turn around. If you call the Phoenix store ask for Paul Johnson.

If he has 30k on his clutch and needs replacement, I'd say go for something better than OEM...sound like you need it.

Do you do clutches derek or do you just refer all clutch work to the other derek?

Yeah my buddy has been waiting for some stuff from Terry for like a month now.
