first turn of the key it cranks for 10-15 seconds and fires up.... if i crank for 3 seconds than crank the car over again starts with no issues?
crank position ? starter? ignition switch?

it never ends

basically takes a long time to crank over..... with the first turn of the key

FV-QR

My car would do that when my battery was about to give up the ghost. I'd have to let the alternator charge the battery a little before itd start, so it would crank slowly, and pick up speed before starting.

i vote ignition switch http://****************.com/smile/emthup.gif

May I ask why? He said it's cranking just fine. OP, are things like the headlights and turn signals not working sometimes? if they always work, then I'd say the ignition switch is fine...
Yes, the switch dies a lot. But it's not a fix for every issue.
So you crank for 10-15, then turn off and it'll start right up on the second? It is probably fuel related. Could be the pump but test first: turn the key on but don't start the car. Can you heare the pump priming? Take the cover off the in-0tank pump in the car. Can you hear/feel that one too?
Try turning the key on and letting the pump prime until it automatically shuts off. Try doing that 2 times in a row, then try starting. if it starts right up then the fuel pump is on it's way out: it can't provide enough pressure with a quick crank, you have to prime it first. If that's not the issue let us know.

i have mk3 gas tank just an FYI...and on OBD1 vr the pump doesnt prime I don't think at least i cant hear it... let me go check it out now see what happens

Re: another bs (dubbinmk2)

I'm reasonably sure they still prime but I can't guarantee it. If it's not priming that could be part of the problem. Cranking causes a tach signal to be sensed by the ECU which then switches on the fuel pump and "primes" it enoguh to crank. At least sounds right to me

I might need to try this in the morning, i just tried starting the car and had no issues, this is after 5 hours the car has been parked.?
i'll report back in the morning when the car sits over night.

My Audi would long crank after it'd been sitting for 8-10 hours or more. It was the check valve in the pump that holds fuel pressure at the fuel rail that went bad in my car. The valve keeps pressure at the rail for quick startup, reason it takes long to start is the fuel bleeds back down to the tank and the line from tank to rail has to fill back up to the rail before it can start.

x2, I had the exact same problem in my rocco: park on a downslope, starts fine. park on an uplslope, takes Forever
