so i am thinkign of raising up my Mk3 for winter here. last year it got stuck because it was to low for the snow (stock height). what is the best (and cheapest) way of raising a Mk3 golf with a 1.8 engine. lookign to go up 2-3inches. post pics. NO FLAMING

The fellows name is BeatMilk, he raised his Jetta some time ago, the process is rather simple. Take some Shocks and Struts from a B3 Passat 93-98, preferably a VR6 model, wagon. but any set from any Passat should work just fine. its a simple bolt off bolt on operation, takes less than 3 hours. so says beatmilk. I am looking for my shocks and strut set right now. I had found a complete set for 40 dollars, but they ended up selling off the whole Passat, in stay of parting it out. That should give your 4-6 inches of lift.
My plan is to lift mine, get some better tires, and weld on a Snorkel. Im going to use an aluminum drive shaft for the intake, its strong and i can get them for free. so its not a big deal, then i will just rock it into the side of the jetta, and seal up the old intake area.
These are just current plans i have, but i need to get it lifted first. I take my jetta onto lite trails now and then, so a little extra clearance would not hurt.

the snow here in north carolina is not that bad really, the deepest is about one foot high. and thats in the mountains. the lift would just give a little extra clearance for the bottom to clear the top. also been looking at a skid plate to protect the bottom of the engine transmission.

I stay slammed for the winter and plow my own paths

Just leave it at stock height or whatever nd wait till they plow the roads? Or get some nice snow tires. I didnt even have snow tires and I was plowing through everythings passing a bunch of stock height cars that were stuck. Maybe its just me but driving in the snow isnt to difficult just start out slow and keep your momentum
