so i have a mk4 gti 2.0 aeg and i found a mk4 gti with the 1.8t motor in it and the car is totaled from behind and the motors good he will give me the car for 500 and i was wondering how hard it would be to swap these motors and his car is automatic and myns 5spd can i use my transmission?

search tiggo he did a 2.0 to 1.8t swap. its a LOT of work though

It IS a lot of work. A Bentley (and a lot of time) is your best bet on this one IF you are bent on doing the swap. My personal opinion is to just sell your 2.0 car and buy a 1.8T manual car all ready to go, it will save you a lot of time, headaches, and most importantly, money. It'd be a shame to see you tear down you perfectly good, running 2.0, get halfway into the swap, decide it's too much to handle, then abandon it all together. THEN you have two cars that don't run, you can't recouperate the time or the money you've spent, and you're frustrated. Do your homework now before you ever spend a penny on the swap, find out what it involves, and only after you're sure you can do this within your budget, pull the trigger on buying the donor. Just my opinion, take it for what it's worth (or not)...

Agree, sell your 2.0 and buy a nice 1.8T.

ECU, clocks keys and engine loom required.
The bulk of the mK4 internal loom and fuse box should be very similar.
What years are they?

better still. drop both engines, pull the crank from your 2.0l bore your 1.8t to 83mm stroke that beotch and slap on a 3071...........
