i have a few questions (dont have a manual yet)

i hear that timing chains are known to go bad is there anyway to check if its good or is it something that will just go bad whenever it wants

the passenger front and driver back windows dont work do those share a ground that the other 2 windows dont or would those be separate problems (im guessing motors are bad)

cruise control doesnt work any ideas where to start looking for problems

Any noises from the motor? You'll hear the chains make noise when they start going. Something to try with the windows, use the switch from the passenger rear to check the passenger front. Sometimes the switches will go bad.

The chains don't really go bad, it's the guides and tensioners for the chains that wear out. They're made of plastic, a favorite material of the VW engineers, and wear out before breaking. This causes bad things (TM).

I've never used the cruise control but hear lots of complaints about the cc module failing. VW electronic parts are extremely unreliable.

I believe the common problem with the cruise control module is a relay in the module itself.
Here is the diy to replace the relay inside the module. It does tell you to test the module first in case something else is the problem. If you have trouble following the bentley test linked in that diy then try following this one

Good luck

On NA spec models, the corner lights are supposed to be lit for the DOT spec sidemarker lights. On Euro-spec models, there are no markers installed since they're not a requirement. Someone might've just took out the bulbs or disconnected them for a more 'euro look'
