Are all speedometers and tachometers the same between the 1 and 2 plug clusters? Is the difference between the 2 types just the circuit paper or is the whole deal different between the two?
I'm going to attempt to install gauges from a 2-plug cluster into a 1 plug cluster. I know it's possible, I'm just wondering how much custom electrical work I'm in for if any. Thanks!

The speedometers are interchangeable. There is a circuit card you will need to swap from the old one to the new one, but no biggie there. Can't help you on the tach, though.

Thanks man. The tach looks the easiest, though I have yet to see the back of a 1 plug cluster so we'll see.
VDO sure makes those odometers tamper-proof. It took me about 45min of tinkering to get the mileage on the odometer to what the odometer in my car is at and still work correctly. I had to turn it back almost exactly 100K.

One more question, I was told the oil pressure warning buzzer speaker is in the cluster, but for some reason it's not obvious to me. Is it in the speedo and I'm not seeing it, or is it not in the cluster at all? Thanks.

The buzzer thing on my clusters are on the outside of the cluster, but attached....it is on an L shaped circuit board, like 3 or 5 pins that stab into the cluster contacts on the printed circuit sheet....and then like 2 plastic clips and one small screw, IIRC. I did see one cluster that had the thing inside...lemme look for it....hmmm.
OK....I found an old MFA cluster in my closet, took it apart. The buzzer L shaped board IS inside the unit, wrapping around the top and side of the speedo. On my non-MFA clusters, the board is on the outside of the cluster, no need to remove 8 hex/phillip head screws, and it is on the top and side of the tach.
Also, it isn't a speaker, but a square metal thing, with exposed wrapping of super thin copper wire. I played with one before, it just makes a electromagnetic field, and a bar inside this square cage slams back and forth very fast, making the loud BUZZ you can almost feel in the steering wheel

On the MFA cluster I just took apart, the buzzer is just below the white worm gear on the odo...look under the circuit board there http://****************.com/smile/emthup.gif

Yeah me too. I've installed oil temp and pressure gauges and the senders aren't compatible with the stock warning system. So when I hook everything up that buzzer and light will be going nuts if I don't disable them.
