My Jetta TDI is over 9 years old and the car is a daily driver..good roads, bad roads, rain and snow. I'd like to upgrade the mushy suspension with OEM and don't(can't) want to spend a lot of cash. The rear axle bushings, ball joints and front control arm bushings will be replaced. The front will be TT bushings. I can buy used 2004 GLI springs and maybe shocks. How much will that lower my ride height?(keeping in mind the TDI already has limited ground clearance in the front). Would I need to upgrade the front and rear bars to GLI as well?

This is the best car I've owned in my 40+ years of driving...very few problems and still solid feeling at 175000 Km (about 110K miles)

The front end that this forum doesn't like. Haa

you can go with OEM sport springs + some new OEM shocks.
Since your car has this high mileage it's good to replace the springs and shocks at the same time.
you will get close to stock ride quality + about 1" lower than what you have now.

I'm not so sure thats limited ground clearance around here..
low mileage gli stuff might help you a bit, have you looked at the suspension refresh kits on ecs?
If you were to swap, you dont need anything but the set up. no bars.

i think the 04 05 gli's were maybe an inch lower than all the other nose bleeds.

My street is not always the first to be cleared of snow and all the neighbourhood SUVs leave a road mohawk of at least 7". From ground to skidplate my clearance is 4 -5" and I'm always shaving that road mohawk down. Besides, if I want to go low I can take my GTI Vr out with the 3" clearance at the oilpan.
