Jaimie posted in another thread that VW has still not made a decision so the soonest we'll be able to buy an R will be "the end of 4th quarter 2011." (if at all) I was struggling to hold out for Spring 2011 but since the soonest we'll possibly see it is 6 months later than that, I don't think I can wait that long (current car is falling apart).

Ya I was hoping for Spring too since my lease will be up. Well, I guess that means a Golf TDI for me (the only other VW here in the U.S. as cool as the R).:pumpkin:

I was hoping it would be here early 2011 since my 335i lease ends next month. But it seems it will arrive, if at all, at the end of 2011 so I may jut have to lease another 335i.

I donno... I would have to say I am disappointed in how this is turning out. I know that they try to do a model every 4 years but at times it just seems silly to me.

I have heard and understood every argument here on the weak dollar and a business case etc. but why is it that Mitsubishi, Subaru, Mercedes, BMW, Porsche, Audi, and Nissan/Infiniti all have some sort of sport model that arrive every (or almost every) year here in the USA?

What is it that they do differently that allows them to have more performance oriented cars here?

VW has a plant in Mexico and soon will have one in Tennessee. so does that mean that once the plant in Tennessee is completed we will see more cars like the R series on a more regular basis?

As an example the Australian dollar is almost on par with the US dollar yet we do not get the Golf R and from what i have seen in posts they do. Is it possible that they would sell 5000 units in Australia faster than in the USA?

I keep looking for an excuse to buy another VW and I can never find one. If I wanted to buy a Camry or an Accord I would.

Is it asking too much for a CC or Passat with AWD and the 330 HP Supercharged engine form the S4?

Is it asking too much for an AWD Jetta with the 270 HP engine from the TTS?

It seems like it is asking too much for an awd golf with the 270 HP engine from the TTS!!

Do the people like me who have owned over 8 VW's in their lives not count for anything when VAG makes their decisions?

I am trying you understand Euro VS Dollar thing but when 2008 MkV came to USA 1 Euro = 1.3686 USD Now it is 1 Euro = 1.3897 USD. Not much difference... Come on VWoA bring the Golf R here! Ok you can cut ACC, Recarro seats and a few other things that is fine but just bring it!!!

The Aussies are paying just under $54k for a three door stick. A bit of a hard sell here. Of course they may be like the Brits with all those extra taxes and B.S., not sure.
It would be interesting to know if they sell out of their inventory at those prices. If they do, then maybe it justifies VW sending the car there and not here.

If they don't sell out, then I don't see a reason to not sell it here as well other than not wanting to take a loss in two countries. But I would expect they would sell out all 5000 units here in the USA even at $35k each.

Well I just ordered a new 328xit for euro delivery, and I think we're going with the Countryman, (AWD MT), in February when it comes here. Either one of those could have been a Golf with AWD or R.
I know it is very tough to wait. I might order S4 with Europen delivery option. "What can I doooo sometimesss?? hihh..." :p

(Have fun. Especially at 20 sec)

It's not so much an issue of what the difference is on any given day, but the way that it's expected to trend as well as the total strength of both currencies. Even though the world economy, as well as the US specifically, have been doing okay Germany wound up fronting the majority of the Greece bail out (if memory serves). As a German based company, it would make sense for them to hedge their bets on a car that could go either way if their national economy could tank. That's entirely speculative, though. I also think that the exchange rate is one of lesser factors involved in the foot dragging so much as the business and certification cases.

It's not really hard to wait, if there was a real time-frame. Nice video of "Family Day" in Korea of what we won't be getting
Thank gawd. Why bring over K04 turbo FWD cars? It's just a squished Stage 3 GTI. My Stage 2+ '07 GTI is embarrassing me enough as I spin and spin and spin in first... and second... and third... at a light. No more talk about the 'rocco, please, k, thx, bai.

Excellent point! VW can go you know what if they think they can sell a decontented R at 35k when I can get a fully loaded CPO 2010 335xi (this is a 300hp AWD bi-turbo car, folks) with under 10k miles for under 40k right now... I can only imagine the prices next year! That R better be fully loaded (i.e., I mean EVERYTHING that euro-spec offers but Recaros, obviously) at 35k out the door (i.e., TTL), no ifs ands or buts, and you can tell that to VW's new Fuhrer, Jamie. The only thing that will keep the R from flying off dealer lots is a high price. Of course, VW, may decide not to bring it over, which means VW can you know what either way, since I'm done with the brand at that point. It will have nothing to offer for anyone in my family, unless all my family members decide to give up on life and become bland and boring so that we fit VW's perceived notion of its future Toyunda buyers.
