Nice green coolant :banghead:
thats what i thought. just bought the car, ... what did i get myself into. its worse then i thought. :banghead:

im soon gonna think "what did i get myself into  "

I honestly would have purchased from Guven when i needed to for my jetta glx, but I opted for the EARLY BFI kit, (which later proved to be a mistake) faulty drain...

when I did my Passat, (on a budget) I just did the plastic kit from Gap. I figured, the original lasted 120k, the replacement will last a similar amount of time.

but to the OP,.. there's several options out there. just make sure you flush the coolant properly and thoroughly before refilling it. you should replace the thermostat, and the housing and all seals/gaskets related....this is a good time to replace any questionable hoses or the expansion tank which is probably brown and stained.

if you purchase from gruven, check out their upper coolant hose Y valve, it's a nice replacement for an otherwise annoying plastic part on your car that will probably fail also.

I replaced mine several months ago. Just bought a plastic one from GAP. I'm like the other poster; the original lasted 14 years, so hey, if I get 14 more out of this new one, I'm a happy man. Replacing it on my VR6 was pretty easy I guess. I just tore down the entire front end of my GTI and got at it that way. Took a bunch of digital photos of everything so I'd know where everything went when I put it back together. Working like a champ today.

ok so you have a project on your hands...
you can replace the whole rocker or patch it
depending on what level you want to take the car to.

i just bought that kit from gap.... crack pipe was top quality, however the thermostat housing and other plastic pieces leaked like a siv when put together, i have to gall gap today about returning it actually, because i got the pa prats locally and went together fine
