Re: Is the 2.0L virtually bullet proof? (QuackDuck)

Mine is too... some older model (AEG) 2.0's had an oil consumption issue due to the piston rings and some other internals... but the newer versions are cool... I have yet to hear of a coil pack issue, etc... knock on wood.

Re: Is the 2.0L virtually bullet proof? (LSIII)

it has been an absolutely wonderful engine to me, aside from the usual oil burning but its not such a bid deal as some ppl make it out to be...because after all if ur a REALLL enthusiasm ud know the standards and status of your car 24/7 hehe. But it is a wonderful engine and its sad so many ppl bash it for its mere 115 hp but it makes up for it in reliability and efficiency.

For about the most utterly low tech engine in a new car in the planet it better be

But yea, they are pretty solid, had a 1997 GTi 2.slow for 4 years and 88,000 miles before i sold it and got my VR6 and never a problem even with me beating the piss out of it and putting on the P-chip, P-flow, CB Exhaust, struts, coils, etc etc it always ran solid http://****************.com/smile/emthup.gif

Bullet proof? I'm sure if you dropped 50 grand into it you could armor it to be bulletproof and withstand a grenade attack on the undercarriage. According to a somewhat interesting car special on CNBC this is being done more often (although I don't think on VWs

). Now if your talking about reliability, I wouldn't know.

2.0s don't have coilpacks, thus, no issues will be had

Re: Is the 2.0L virtually bullet proof? (2kjettaguy)

47K miles in 2yrs (lots of driving!) and no problem... I said NO PROBLEM... it doesnt feel all that slow in the city... but if you want it to go faster you can boost it (6-7psi) and it still reliable, some1 here has a turbo kit for 2yrs now w/ no problem yet...

i've actually seen a bulletproof vw once. I forget where I saw it but it was for a company that "bulletproofs" up your car for people in need of high security. i'll try and find it. http://****************.com/smile/emthup.gif

In Mexico City, they do this quite often to Jetta's... in fact they are one of the most popular to make bulletproof.

Re: Is the 2.0L virtually bullet proof? (LSIII)

I love my 2.0, its bashed alot on here for lack of power but it doesnt bother me. It's been reliable as hell since day one. I just had my catalytic converter replaced under warranty(thank god), my AC compression valve was leaking and was also replaced under warranty and thats about it. I was buring alot of oil before the cat replacement, Im hoping that was the reason. I drive alot but I dont beat the piss out of the car too much. later, jg

Re: Is the 2.0L virtually bullet proof? (JG)

The 2.0 is a workhorse of an engine.....I've had 2 of them and both were trouble free for over 100K.....it's proven to stand the tests oif time....it's durable.....takes a beating and keeps on ticking when it is cared for properly.....IMO, the best engine VW has ever produced....with the VR6 a close runner-up.

Re: Is the 2.0L virtually bullet proof? (vwsteve)

you know the 2.0 isn't the first engine to come along that consumes oil,
a friend of mine had a volvo that did and he drove it for 100k miles before he sold it, still running perfect.
