I still lust daily for the Mitsubishi Evolution 9. Love that car, and from my incredibly biased opinion it is the perfect car for me.

Of course the downfall if the Evo 9 is the interior. The X interior is supposedly an upgrade, but to me it still looks like a complete pile of garbage. I actually like the 9's spartan interior better.

So what can people tell me about the 10? IS the 4b11 is modifiable is the legendary 4G63?

Are there any big power Evo 10's out there?

What about the driving dynamics? I love how the 8-9 drives but have not driven the X.

Talk to me, learn me on some EVO-X.

This car would be my daily, winters too.

From all accounts I've read, there's a decent aftermarket for the 4B11. It's power output is underrated from the factory and I've read many people getting 50HP out of it reliably with effectively a reflash and a tune. If you're going to be modding it, the GSR is the one to go for as the 5M/T can handle greater gains in power reliably than the MR/SE's Dual Clutch Transmission.

Ryan Gates probably knows more than anyone on here, you should PM him or go on EvoM, there's tons of people that know the engine tooth and nail.

The x is a better car in most ways, minus subjective things like rawness and attitude. It handles better than the old car yet rides better too. The x interior isn't great or very elegant but I definitely find it to be an upgrade from the 9. Riding in a 9 at high speed is a ton of fun, but the daily drive would get old fast for me. The X is far from a supple cruiser but it is much more refined than the 9 without sacrificing performance.

I have 25,000 miles in an Evo X over the past 14 months.

What exactly do you want to know? Your question is pretty vague.

It is a bulletproof car from a reliability standpoint, delivers exceptional performance in any weather and is reasonable to live with on a daily basis.

The older Evos are great but the X has just a bit more livability and that makes it far superior in my eyes. The 4B11T seems to accept modifications very well also. It runs very rich in the factory tune so a simple reflash frees up a lot of power. Stock, 2010/11 is much stronger than the 2008 but after a tune they are about the same. My completely stock car put down an average of 242/245 over three pulls (strangely the torque figure was exactly 245 every pull).

I just put on a Perrin cat-back exhaust and am waiting to install the downpipe and cat-delete until I get it dyno-tuned. With those simple modifications and a panel filter I should be over 300 whp reliably and easily.

what is so unlivable about a 8 or 9?
The ride can make you lose a filling and it's worse traveling slow on uneven roads. The engine buzzes considerably on the highway at speeds over 70mph, and the interior material quality is no better than a tinny economy car. These are all things that are fine in small doses but for me the evo takes it too far in each regard to drive every day...but I have friends that do and love it, so find one to drive and see what you think.

A little bit from somebody who actually owned an 8 for nearly 70k miles:

The ride is firm, but very livable. Frankly the GTR has a flintier ride on anything other than the comfort setting. It is not teeth rattling bad and is pretty breath taking when combined with the razor sharp steering at how quickly the car can change directions without _any_ body roll. I loved the suspension, no issue there at all and I wouldn't change a thing for the nancies in the room. I DD'd the car for 70k.

The interior is basic and simple, but well put together. I had no issues with rattles or "buzzing." It was easy to work on to boot. The Euros could learn a thing or two about this with all their stupid clips and special tools needed.

The engine was anything but "buzzy." In fact, that would be the last adjective I would use to describe it. It turns around 3400 rpm at 80. I found it perfectly acceptable, even with an exhaust. The tunability of the Evo 9 stock hardware is the best of any factory turbo 4, period. People regularly make 380+ whp on the stock turbo with pump gas and trap 116-117+, again on pump gas. The 4B11 comes close with regards to power, but the piggy weight and ridiculously short gearing hamper it's trap speeds.

I like both the 9 and the X. The attitude and rawness of the CT9a is something that I like very much and makes the car feel very special. Some of that is gone with the X, though it is a better "every day" car. That said, I would drive a modded 9 as a DD again in a heart beat.

IXs generally go for 25K or less with the ones around 25K being pretty well maintained, unmodded, or MR models. The Evo X usually goes for around between 24-32K used with the same logic, the Xs falling around that mid 20k range are usually modded or have been beaten the piss out of.

I would LOVE a heavily modded 9. Is not the point of owning an EVO to make 500whp and then have total shenanigans on track with it? If I had the option I would pick up a properly modified Buschur or AMS evo 9 in a second. The car can take it right? Why the stigma with modified evos?
