Got my 09 GTI through a broker who obviously didn't know the history. I was replacing the springs on the front Koni's and was crawling around looking at the HID levelers when I saw a huge exhaust pipe. So it's the 3" down pipe from APR. I knew it had the carbino intake...so I figure what the hell I'll try changing the program after watching the video on APR. It worked!!

Kinda freakin me out because I don't know the history if the car and its still under warranty. When I take it to my local APR dealer for alignment can they tell me what the programs are? I need 91 octane because I'm in Colorado. I figure its program 2. What about lock codes? Anything else I should know?

They 'should' keep things based off the vehicle vin # rather than owner. Nice score though, whoever got my 06 GTI lucked out and got an ATP Catless downpipe, REVO STGII software and front/rear swaybars. Good ol' days!

You my friend are very lucky, all my Jetta came with is the 2 designer cigarette burns on the driver side pillar... I hear it adds 50 HP Tell no one ;)

I always find it amusing that you mostly only have 91 and 93 octane gas in the USA. I life in Iceland and we have 95, 98 and one place even sells 100oct(most of the time it's bad because no one buys it)!!
Different scales of octane.

you have what is called "Research Octane Number", RON, which is octane based on a test engine with no load.

We use what's called Anti-Knock Index, which is a average of RON & MON.

MON, Motor Octane Number is conducted with load.

So... AKI roughly 4 points lower than RON.

95 RON is roughly equivalent to 91 AKI
98 RON is roughly equivalent to 94 AKI
100 RON is roughly equivalent to 96 AKI

This is like a catch 22, You buy a used car to find it has all the mods you would have done...WIN...you then think of how you would have driven after each of those mods...LOOSE! obviously the first owner enjoyed the car...which probably means it seldom went out without coming close to redline at lease a few times. My friend was convinced mine was chipped when I got it...but I was 100% stock, un molested

I doubt they will help one with car since the program wasn't purchased by him. At least thats how APR's headquarters work from my experience.
I picked up a used engine/trans with an APR stage 2 ECU. It cost me $50 I think to have the warranty transferred into my name and that was it. They didnt ask any questions about previous owners, etc.

Thanks for the replies. I will give APR a call and see what they say, or maybe wait until I take it to the local APR dealer.

I hear ya on the Catch22. I know when I switched the program to 2 and felt and heard the difference I was like :D so I don't like to think about the previous owner. It's only got 28k on it and runs nice and smooth though.

On a different subject, the car was from Indiana and my coworker said something like "oh yeah, I knew a guy who used to get cars from Indiana to sell because of their salvage title laws". I guess they are more lax about salvage titles? The carfax said it was in a left sideswipe accident, so who knows...

My local APR shop was great and flashed it with the latest software and gave me the program slots for free when I did my alignment; stock, 91, 93, Valet.

Their printout says its APR Stage2+. So does that require the fuel pump? I guess I would have to remove the back seat and get to the top of the fuel tank to even be able to figure out if it's there.

Who knows what i find next:thumbup:
