I would not have given $7500 for that car. It is a victim of the 1990's monochromatic cluster****. For heavens sake the brake lines are painted red. Non original, "custom" paint, poor running..... Oh yeah...

Now, if that was a nice AAR clone, sure $15K would be fine. IF this car is really rust free, then it might be a nice platform for a AAR clone.

Why do I think this car as one of those awful tweed interiors too.
Just curious, what makes you think this is a monochromatic job? It has all of the factory chrome trim. The bumpers (edit: ok, 1 is) chrome. The wheels have chrome on them. The OP also stated it IS a factory color. :what:

Probably the red brake booster/lines/everything under the hood. What happened is that someone started a mono job and ended up with this ( or the paint all came off the chrome at the car wash).

I'm about 85% certain that that is not an OE color..at least on my monitor it does not look to be Rallye Red.

I think what I'm saying is that this car is a starting place. $15K is too high for a starting place. If the OP likes it, swell.

A quick perusal of Craigslist in my geographical area shows me several beat but complete OEish examples ( minimal rust) for under 10K. I personally would rather start with more original car.

Maybe factory color. It's applied at the wrong places.

One mistake you made is to come here asking if you got a good deal. YOU are the only who can determine if you got a good deal.

My opinion, because of the mods that have been done, and not very well. It's a $10K at best. How's the interior?

I didn't think there were '72 AAR's, they were just 1970. So an AAR clone may not be a great idea.

What should matter to you is to enjoy it in any you can. Good luck!!

Well it's my first muscle car so first thing is first. Ill be taking in to a dyno tuning shop and they have a guy that really knows the type of carbs I have well.

After that I need to find a grill and I think the car is too red so I want to add some black to it. Not sure what route I wanna take with that. And finally I need some wheels. Then it should be a pretty nice ride

Sold for the same price, not driveable, is on EBAY, and states it has rust issues.

Not trying to flame anyone here. I'm holding out for more pics. The key is if it isn't a super shady bondo job, I say good deal. The brake booster and lines and all those little details, like the flex fan, are super easy to fix. IMHO a bit too much hate in this thread.

Not sure if this one has a motor or not, but it is a complete much more solid starting point for my tastes.
Ok, the first one counts, but points off for crap color and non-original color.
the second one, not so much.

I'll throw some more examples of under $15k Cudas in here so you can compare

exterior wise, only the rear bumpers painted.
fronts in good shape
there's not a lot of brightwork on these cars anyway.

Could use a side stripe or some type of matte graphic to break it up a bit though.

I agree. It's so common, but painting the tail light panel might be a option. Of course everyone does flat black. I would get some rims first. That will change the look quite a bit.

I have the graphic for it but I want to take it to a body shop to have it installed, they are pricey to replace if I mess it up. I think I'll get a recommendation on possibly going over the body with a cut and buff and wax job. Have a hotrod shop I was recommended to take it to that does this kind of resto work daily.

I feel like such a noob taking it to these shops lol I need some diys!

If you were in CA I'd say you got a decent deal, but you're not, so I think you got just a tad bit hosed. BUT! It's your car, and you seem genuinely happy, so that's all that matters. In all honesty, just a little bit of work and money on your end in cleaning it up a bit and it would definitely look like a legitimate $15k+ Cuda.

Congrats on the purchase and living the dream.

Can we bet more/better pictures?

I'm in the process of doing the cut & buff boogie on my malibu. It's really not the hard, just time consuming. If you get a quote for a pro to do it for like $600, i would let them do it. I have about $200 in paper and compounds, and i already had a buffer. I also have about 12 hours of labor, but a lot of that has been learning how to do it.

If i had to do it again, i would have started with a car that was already done, and made my changes. Much like you are doing.

I am in ca, right smack in the middle

New pics will have to wait I'm out of town fir a few days
Oh! Nice

All the links people were posting were mid America so I assumed you were from that general area. Congratulations then! Decent price for a nice car, it seems like if you want a well done Cuda in CA you'll be paying beyond $50k. Numbers are matching? That's a mortgage
