Has someone tried to connect Samsung Galaxy S2 with Phaeton?
It seams that Samsung has implemented SAP into Android, but I would like to get confirmation from you if it realy works and if telephone contacts are transfered into Phaeton without problem.
In some cars in case of previous Galaxy S model contacts where transfered only from SIM card.

Hi,

I have a 2009 Phaeton with the RNS810 system.

My Samsung Galaxy SII works perfectly. It has the necessary rSAP VW group cars need to communicate.

The car connects very quickly and takes over all contacts - but orders them last name first. I have not found out how to change this yet.

In all, it is the quickest system I have encountered - though this may be primarily due to the phone itself. It is the first smart phone that does everything it says on the box.

Hope this helps.

Kind regards,
Stephen

Raf,
I also have a 2008 3.0 Tdi and i bought the Samsung GS2 believing it would work with my premium bluetooth. The Samsung will connect to the car but the transfer rate between them is so slow that it does not work at all. I have been searching the web for a solution but with no luck so far. Currently i'm using my trusted Nokia N95 that works fine.

Dear Christian,

Which version of Phaeton model from 2008 do you have?
In 2008 we have 3 options:
1) model 2008 till VIII 2008
2) model pre 2009 IX-XI 2008 (240 HP new CAN but without RNS810)
3) model 2009 with RNS810 from XI 2009

Raf,
My car is probably alternative nr1 being a very early 2008 (within the first 200 manufactured). It does not have the RNS810 nor does it have 240Hp. My car has the old style but dvd based navigation and 233Hp.

Sgs2 in early 2008 Phaeton (dvd navition but not rns810)

I have only managed to connect once, but since then only failures. Is there a firmware update possible for the uhv or any other solution for rsap connection problems?

I tried once to connect SAMSUNG GALXY S2, connection was possible with rSAP protocol, but after short time conection was broken and transfer of contact was not finished.
I had only 5 minutes to make short test. Problem with transfer might be due to big phone contact list by the phone that I tested.
I am using now HTC HD2, but to have connetion I disable SAP option by phone. I had to limit number of contacts in the phone to allow Phaeton to display all of them. Before limiting number of contacts I could not see contacrs starting from letter T till Z.
I tested shortly iPhone 4G and conection and transfer of contacts was possible.
I have not change HD2 to IPhone while I have got to use bigger screen by HD2 and screen on iPhone seams to be to small for me.

Just last night read that disabling data connection on phone might help. Will try that today. On Galaxy I don't think you can choose hfp or rsap...
Using HFP has advantage - easier searching of contacts in the phone then in Phaeton screen. Addional advantage is - access into the list of received calls.
Disadvange is that the phone is not using antena build in the car, so availability of the phone net is an issue.

Still not working

I tried "everything" but to no avail. It may be that the SIM itself doesn't support rsap but enquiring with the cell phone company did't help. I got the impression the person answering does not know what rsap is...
Disabling data connection does not help.
Will try my "ancient" HTC later today.

Last resort

Depending on how badly you want this, and how comfortable you are with flashing your phone, it might be worth rooting it and trying a different rom. My original Android phone wouldn't pair with my car until I flashed Cyanogenmod.
I will keep that in mind. I am not really keen on rooting...
Perhaps VW has a solution, will look into that.
The HTC did not work, ordered a new SIM card to see if this solves the problem.

I have been searching hi and low for a solution but non has come to me, I have tried every possible configuration of my SG2. I do know that the 2008 Phaeton is running Bluetooth version 1 vs the Samsung's version 3 but if this is the root of the problem I don't know.

Gentlemen
I have the same version (early MY2008) and the only phones that will work are Nokia of that period: E51 and similar generation. For example E51 works perfectly but E52 will not work. I have tried lots of iPhone/ Blackberry and all other types of phone at work and all give the same performance: you key in the 16 digit code to make a connection, everything looks good and after 20 seconds waiting a "connection failure" message.

This has been discussed in other threads and as best as I can understand the problem is the rSAP hardware is made by nokia, and is not an "industry standard".
I do not believe there is any help or solution to this problem. Talking to my VW garage they have similar problems with other VW "premium phone" integrations of that period.

In a previous post last year I noted in the Bentley website they have a detailed section on what phone works with what Bentley CGT phone system :banghead:

Hi all,

I have a GP0 and a GP3, and recently swapped out my E72 Nokia for a Samsung Galaxy S2, and I have to say, bar a few minor hiccups with some large contacts, it works better than the Nokia. I get the connection every time, both on the old bluetooth kit in the GP0 and the RNS 810 in the GP3.

This said, we all know that phone integration in Phaeton has varied over the years, and the GP1 & GP3 apparently has a 'better' kit than the GP0, and the GP2 retrograde kit when compared to the GP1...

The SGS2 will connect with HFP the first time when connecting, but after that, I get Premium connection every time! (not sure how you could choose anyway)

One more thing to add, I bought a unbranded, non-network specific phone, as this will be what Samsung prepared and tested, it is entirely possible (and sometimes even likely) that Operator version may differ and may well work less well than the vanilla version. It would not be the first time (or the last time) an operator specific version has butchered phone features.

Hope this helps. I am very happy that I can have a better phone than the Nokia that works so perfectly with the car...

My main issue with the Nokia E72 was that it would connect to the car, car would start the process of activating the rSAP stack, then the phone would crash (battery out job) - not so much fun when driving along. Samsung connects every time, no glitches so far - very happy indeed...

Now I just need to figure out why some contacts refuse to show up in the car phone book - but I see that as a nice problem to have!

Regards,

Johan

If you want to use the RSAP stack, do not go down this path unless you also want to add a rSAP service as well... Only the Samsung Firmware has the rSAP stack built in... It may well be worth tracking down a non-operator version and flash the phone with that (if you have operator branding on it that is) - that may help.

My sim-lock free sgs2 with an upgraded (new) SIM still does not work...
Hi John,
That is most odd then, it would indicate that the GP1 is sufficiently different as to confuse the phone... I suspect the issue is that that the phone does not know which profile the car is trying to use, on the GP3 it does end up with HFP for the first connection, and rSAP o subsequent connections.

Question: on my phone, it does ask me to confirm access to the SIM card, and to allow or refuse... If I say no to this, it connects via Handsfree profile, if I agree I get rSAP - do you also get this option? Or does it never get that far even?

regards,

Johan
