Which is why you respond to threads and don't start them.
Or something like that

when you reset your cam timing did you crank the motor by the cam sprocket or the crank. my car did exactly that when my crank keyway stripped....
This was going to be my next guess if the CTS and Vacuum lines are good. Hence why I said retime the engine.

adjusted isv. no dice. car starts a lot easier though
thanks for the help again everyone.
Did you check the CTS???? Why hasn't that been your first thing to test with a multimeter and then replace if bad? Is it running rich? How do the plugs look?

the plugs are s*** but the car was running better before i did the head gasket. let me dig out the other cts and try that because someone stole my multimeter ( i have a spare cts because i thought it was bad at one point so i replaced it )

the car is running rich.

Check the wiring to the CTS too. Replace the plugs.

This is like hearding cats... :banghead:

why can't you just time it to factory specs and find your problem else where? 6 degrees at 2k-2500 rpms with the blue cts disconnected.

mine runs way better after i found out it was 25 degrees btdc at idle, lol

so swap the blue cts piggyback to the black on then time it? the car wont run if thats unplugged:screwy:

Yes it will. It just runs very rough.

Proper ignition timing procedure is to start the car and let it come up to temperature. You must have a working CTS for this. Loosen the distributor hold down bolt

Then remove the CTS plug. This puts the ECU into a special learn mode for ignition timing.

With a timing light line up the mark on the flywheel through the trans hole. The large mark is 6 degrees advanced. Adjust the distributor until it lines up. Do this at about 2500 RPM

Plug the CTS back in and then rev the engine a couple times. Shut the car off and tighten the distributor.

wouldnt the crankshaft mark be relevant to the flywheel mark in terms of TDC.?
or is the flywheel mark 6 degrees advanced and irrelevant to the TDC mark on the crankshaft.

i hope you can make sense of that :D

The mark on the crank pulley is 0 degrees, the 6 degree mark is on the flywheel and easier to see while doing this.

is there a TDC mark on the Intermediate shaft? I think that might be the problem
If the marks on the IM shaft/crank/cam don't line up then you will have issues. That is static timing that I told you to check first. :banghead::banghead:

Im done helping. someone elses turn to baby sit

Yeah, I am a bit confused as well. I am no timing expert, but it seems that if you did a head gasket that you should have a Bentley and I KNOW the book has the timing marks listed. I just replaced my timing belt and looked at them all. Admittedly, I could not find the flywheel mark, but I replaced the flywheel a while back and I cannot even be certain that it came with one. It sounds like you might need a car buddy or a house call from a car doctor, you are over your head. LOL.

Aftermarket flywheels are not market. You are supposed to mark them before you install them. - Per the bentley manual.

Ouch, you got me. But as you already implied, if you want to take everything apart, you can use the ones on the sprocket, etc.
