I never had a MK5, but the air on my MK6 is better than that on my MK4...I rarely had to put it above 2 or 3 for the fan switch and our highs are over 120*F.

I was actually impressed with the Mk6's AC, considering that I read a bunch of posts that said otherwise. Was thinking of a Climatronic swap way in the future before purchasing, but it's honestly not necessary.

I was not thrilled with my AC this summer. When the temps were above 100 the AC just could not keep up...it was a little better on recirc but I rarely had the fan on below 3.

I bought my 2011 GTI this Summer and thought it did a fine job, even when it got over 100 degrees. I was concerned since it has such a small base engine. What also helped was getting a VAG-COM cable so I could roll down all the windows remotely before getting in. That was standard on one of my first cars, a 97 Jetta.

Coming from a car with climate control (Mazda 6), I still find it kind of annoying that this car doesn't have it. Then again, my Mazda 6 had a ticking time bomb under the dash, as the mechanical bit that baffled the air didn't always work right (a $1000+ repair). Sometimes keeping it simple is the way to go.

Like farfromhome63 said mkv a/c was horrible. It sounds like mkvi might be improved. Any other opinions would be great an my wife is considering a golf or gti and if the air is as bad as mkv I won't be able to handle her buying one.

2010 gti and my AC is bad ***, i live in south florida and it worked perfectly... i never had to put the temp at low... i kept it arounf 66~68 and at 3 and it was good enough for me!

The A/C in my black-on-black 2.0L 8V Jetta is ice cold, even in coastal North Carolina. Major improvement from the Mk.V systems.

yeah a/c is pretty cold in every MKVI I've been in.

Vw did something to improve the air conditioning on the newer models across the board because the previous generation pretty much all across the board with all models were horrible, I have been in many of them and they were all bad. I wonder what they did to improve the system. They must have had alot of complaints. I complained several times, my 2007 jetta was horrible on any day over 80 degrees and several other people I know hated their air.

I don't know why people complain about the mkv system. I live in Alabama where it gets nasty hot and nasty humid, and I never had a complaint about it.

Those 100* days with 90% humidity didn't bother me one bit.
