Wow! What a difference! No more "shaken, not stirred" for the old 16v. I've had the thing for a while and just got around to putting it in. Are these still available anymore? (They look like the gushy hydraulic mount, minus the gushy.)

Re: Just bolted on the VW Motorsports front motor mount... (Bahnburner)

I've thought about getting motor mount or two, but after installing my cam (TT 260) I had second thoughts. The car gets pretty lumpy sometimes at idle and shakes, so is it worse with a more solid mount, or better?

If your motor doesn't feel as if it's flopping around under the hood and giving excessive driveline lash, I wouldn't change them. You have an 8v 2.0?

I went through two motor mounts in 6 mounths. The first was the OEM replacement purchased at a local car parts store (Part Source for ya Canucks). After 6months it gave way. It was one of those silicone filled ones. After that I went to the dealership and they sold me a sold rubber mount, its been great ever since. I've heard that the one I have is actually for an auto, but does the job.

the easiest upgrade is to go to the old GTi front mount from the 85-87.or the jetta 1.8L from the 87-89 solid mount and it won't shake your teeth out either..I'll look for the part number later. I will be changing mine soon as it needs it really badly..

I dont think there is excessive movement of the engine. It's only got 85k miles on it. Yes it's the 8v 2.0. I was suprised how easy it was to move the engine even when tightening the adjusting bolts for the V belt. Certainly moves more easily than any other (nonVW) engine I've ever worked on, but I think those were all solid mounts to begin with. It's a mod I'll probably consider when my clutch eventually goes out or something.

I think 16v and 8v passats can benefit greatly (mine did) from installing the G/J II rear mount and cradle. You can get the mount off of any junkyard car that's had its engine yanked.

I put the Turn2 urethane in for the front mount on my VR6, and it was a HUGE difference. I still have to do the back, but there is so much less lash and the power feels like it is put down better.

Those of you who installed new front mounts -- did you replace the upper or lower or both?
I have a Turn2 front lower and brand-new OEM swiss-cheese front upper that will be going in soon.
