Question for you guys. The wheels have been stripped using a spray on chemical stripper. My first instinct was to spray on a quick layer of clear coat. But, I was told that they should be fine just as long as I have them polished up. I am just scared of flash rust. Any one know the correct answer?

Thanks in advance.

if you could, I've heard they can powder coat clear now and may not yellow like most spray on clears no a days unless you get the professionaly sprayed

Has a local shop put some tires on and mount them up...

This is the result:

Sorry for the terrible pic. From my phone in a rain storm. Center caps did turn out so great so they will have to be redone.

read the whole thread. i have caps. They are being stubborn.

They look great! I've been wanting to do the same thing with my teardrops for a while.

I'd also like to know if clear-coating them is necessary. I've heard that as long as they're polished they should be fine but we have a lot of salt on the roads in the Northeast so I don't know.

Anyone have an idea as to how much it would cost to have them cleared by a powder-coater? Would all the paint have to be stripped from the inside of the barrel as well [assuming it was cleared from the factory]?

got to really stay on top bare polished alum. once it starts oxidizing you get to start over and sand and polish again.

id just go w/ the spray on type, alot cheaper , your own turn around time. just dont freek out when you spray it on and it starts smoking as it dries.
