...ROLLER LIFTERS anybody?

Im doing some studying up on cams and other relative parts in that same area. I always see people talking about their hydraulic lifters and solid lifters but does anybody have roller lifters installed. If so i would greatly appriciate comments and concerns on the subject. Anybody with any type of knowledge on roller lifters are more than welcome too.

you cant get roller lifters on VWs, the cam is right over the valves, not like old GMs or Fords where the cam is in the middle of the block with push rods, we call it german technology

Yeah, but technically you could build a roller cam. It works on OHC engines, also.

Call me old school, but I love a good solid lifter setup. They are a pain in the butt, but they sure do make an engine scream! For high RPM, they rule. http://****************.com/smile/emthup.gif

It could probably be done,if you were able to fab the whole lifter from scratch. Design it so's you've got a small diameter roller that would fit in between the cam and the lifter bore,but you'd have to give up the hydraulic part of the lifter. Better sign up for some machine shop classes.
As far as whether it's worth it,probably not. Most of the designs for roller cams/lifters are intended to reduce friction inside the motor,or to allow for huge lift/long duration cams, real high valvespring pressures,or all of the above.
You'd definitely be in some uncharted territory,regardless.

Hydraulic lifters are to solid lifters what a torque converter is to a clutch assembly. A fluid coupling vs. a mechanical coupling. I would say that mechanical part will almost always perform better in a drivetrain, regardless of the specific part in question. Obvoiusly the viscious couplings in a AWD system are a whole other story, but that wouldn't apply to our FF drivetrain cars.
