I have read reports of the top speed being limited to 130 mph in the US. Reviews have also quoted 155 mph in Europe. My question is: with the limiter removed, what is the top speed of the US Golf R?

Post videos if possible.

I'm sure it'll hit 155 with the limiter removed. That whole Govt. limited to 130mph is a load of ****.

As for how fast it will go with gobs of power? I don't know, you might want to ask TEFF

It may be "limited at 130" but at 120 it has some kind of change in the tune... It basically cut at 120 when I was doing pulls with the mini.

Now that I have APR I have not tried anything... and I am still on snow tires, so I really don't love the feel at 120 in flexy rubber.

Do all cars in the US have this? I was driving a 2012 R8 V10 a couple of weeks back and I don't remember it cutting out at any point ... my fault too I was oblivious while racing the R8 V10 alongside me. My passenger was the one who pointed it out. Whoops!

I'm not sure what it's based on, but not all cars have this. Either they say that they do and they don't, or they do, or they just flat out don't. Not sure what standard or type of car these limiters are based off of.

BMW offers a raise in from 135 to 155 with M sport packages.

Here is a guy doing an indicated 264 kph (164 mph) in a German R, which may be with only the limiter removed, or could be with some tuning as well.

I suspect the USA version would do the same (as the actual power seems to be the same), with the proper tires, of course.

I would bet that's with a Revo or equivalent ECU tune.

Our tires are only rated for 130 MPH (and the stock ECU is claimed to limit it to 130 anyway). With a tune the car should be easily capable of achieving 155+ MPH but don't try it with the standard tires. :p

There is no required speed limit in the USA. The limit should always be at or below the rating of the tires. The 155 mph limit in Europe is just an agreement by the manufacturers among themselves, but usually does not apply to sports cars.

Well, cars with similar Cd have gone that fast. In example, the 135i can hit right around 200mph(not stock power).

I've had mine up into the 115-125 range and it's still pulling like crazy. No doubt it would hit 150 if the computer allowed

With APRs dyno readings and comments on the fuel pump limitations, does that factor in?
110 mph easily here but remembered sales guy saying does exceed 85% of max the first 500 miles. 130 x 85% is 110, 155 x 85% would have been more fun.

Assuming the Golf R has the same gearing as the MK IV R32, and a 7200 redline when chipped, it should do better than 175 if there's no strong headwind.

There used to be a video of a chipped MK IV R32 going 179mph, but the author pulled it from YouTube because it was done on a public highway.

170+ MPH in a hatchback is pretty amazing.
See my sig, I did that in a mile... With my friends car and loads of power, car was totally stable... Stock Golf R with limiter removed will do 155mph easy. My MKIV R32 with cams has done 154 mph and my car has about the same wheel hp as the stock Golf R.

The European R's are supposed to be limited to 250kph (155mph) however there was a video of a guy that had an indicated 262kph (163mph) in a stock R. It was DSG and he had it in sport mode. In D it was limited to 250kph. Don't know how that would go on the manuals.
