What began as a simple "let's-pull-the-bumpers-and-mounting-hardware-for-a-respray" has turned into a multi-weekend epic. I guess I should have expected no less. While my car was at the shop for some other work, I asked them to remove both bumpers and all the shocks. So far, every bolt and fastener has broken, stripped, or needed to be cut off. Two questions:
• Anyone have a source for metric carriage/bumper bolts of the variety used on these bumpers? Just looking for some nice metric, cad plated hardware. Haven't had any luck at the usual NAPA/AutoZone/Pep Boys. Nothing I could find on MK1 Autohaus.
• GTI Bumper End Caps: Looks like these are "non-obtanium" new/repro and I need to find them used. In my over-zealous approach to removing all the parts from the bumpers for stripping and repainting, I turned off the stud anchored into the plastic/rubber inside one of the end-caps. I'd like to try to save it. Considering something like Gorilla Glue and clamping. And of course less emphatic re-assembly. Any other glue/adhesive worth considering?
Thanks
