Hi guys.
50trim on my 1.8T.
I'm thikning I might be having intake temps too high.

Rolling, I get 28C (82.4F). Pushed 3rd gear to 7k , lift, go back to good RPM, pushed 3rd to 7k, and then 4th to almost 7k.

Got from 28C to 61C (142F).

I have a FMIC btw.

Is this really bad, or the temps will just raise like that?

What is too much? How much are you seing when pushing it around?

What's the outside temperature? What piping size r u using, n what are the measurements of the core? Even if it's hot outside, ur intake temp is H.I.G.H. Anything after 48* is not good...at least for my taste.

Outside temp, I would say it was 25C or something near.
Piping is 2.5" hot and cold side.
IC is 550 x 230 x 65 (CORE) (21.6 x 9 x 2.5) with 2.36" ports (or around that)

If I do a one gear pull, the temps don't raise that much (haven't tested a 5th gear pull yet though), and will be in the 40's C.

BTW, plumbling like this:

As mentioned by a4e3y5, IAT above 50 deg C is not good. IMO your air charge cooling cooling could use some help to bring IAT down. You need to either revise/upgrade your intercooler setup or add chemical cooling with water/alcohol injection. Pushing 61*C on pump gas is not a good idea for performance!

agreed, I'm sitting low 40's but i know i need a small reservoir and bigger exchanger.

have you logged for knock and timing?

could take some timing out to make it a bit safer

Running megasquirt, and no knock detection yet.
I was thikning of making some changes to the bumper, so some more air goes in.
Changing to a bigger, 3" thick core could help?

I have a similar ic setup with 400hp n dont see those numbers even on 92* days. U can try opening the front a lil more for airflow. Also keep in mind how well constructed is the core...cant compare an ebay core to a precision, garret, or something similar. So just switching to a better core may do the trick...along with some front opening, although u have a sweet ride n would hate to see any big change in ur front faccia.

Thanks guys :D
As she sits right now:

Had to raise it a bit due to clearance to the floor issues (pan would be a pack of cigarettes on its side high) and because the police is really nailing everyone that has some osrt of modifications to the car.
I have now changed a bit of the bumper. Just shaved some pieces that will not be visible to the naked eye (no holes in the bumper or anything :p)
I'll have to try it and see how it is now, if it has changed a bit.
This is in fact an ebay IC, and I never detected any issues up until now, that I'm monitoring stuff :D
a4e3y5, do you have a pic of your IC setup? I'm aiming for 400 as well.

ebay IC yes.
Please log, as if you have a somewhat similar setup, it should be good.

The way I tested, was, 3rd gear pull, brake, 3rd gear pull, 4th and pull.
if you can do the same, it woudl be great.
But, if not, a 3rd or 4th gear pull, should be quite good to compare, as I see from 28 to 48 in a one gear pull.

Sorry, meant to say that my IC core, piping, n turbo are pretty identical, but the routing is different since i run a pagparts kit. So, just changing the core using those measurements with a better quality core may do the difference in IAT temp. Not sure if with the bumper style, lip, etc u have u will be able to fit a 3" core. I have a MKIV Jetta, so I have more airflow than u do n that helps as well.
