We have two counters on MFD (1-trip data and 2-accumulated data), none of them show the gas consumption.

Every time I stop at gas station I have to divide distance by average gas consumption to know, beforehand, how many liters to top up the tank.

Question is: Is it possible to use VCDS to make the MFD show that information once it is obviously known by the board computer?

Thanks for the video but, as you can see, this is exactly the same as mine.

I mean, it only shows consumption as miles per gallon or, in my case, kilometers per liter.

What I want is to know the total fuel use: how many gallons or liters were burnt since last time I reset, without having to use a calculator.

I hope I can use VCDS to make that information available on display.

I know what you mean and that would be nice, but I'm not sure if that's even an option.

Sometimes it's easier to do things the old fashioned way using a calculator.

I usually just reset my tripometer every time I fill up, and hope I get my usual 450 miles out of a tank.

Shouldn't your fuel pump at the filling station tell you that?

To my knowledge you can see mpg/kpl, miles/km until empty, and miles driven.

Yes and that is one of the reasons I would like to check:

1) Sometimes, automatic pump trigger disengage before topping up;

2) Would be easier to know if the average mpg consumpition shown by MFD is correct;

3) Would also check if the pump is working with a "gas station bias"....:rolleyes:

The information is known by the board computer, only questiion is how to show it!!!

My MFD shows the average consumption. And consumption at the moment. Came that way from factory, just like my CC.

To be honest, it's not very accurate anyway. I still do the calculator thing and it's never as high as the computer thinks it is

Usually, I put around 50 liters at each refueling to top up (at first automatic trigger disengages)

Using the computer average consumption and distance to calculate the total fuel burnt, I always get between 0 to 1 liter less than the real thing, which means up to 2% error (overestimanting the average consuption).

I think it is a reasonable error. The only thing that bothers me is having to use a calculator to get an information that is already in the "system".

I don´t know why VW hides this information. I used to have this on a previous Renault.

The fuel tank is 63L. You can use the fuel guage to approximate how much fuel you've used. eg: if your fuel guange is at half a tank (50%), that would give you 31.5L. If you're at 1/4 tank then it would be 47.25L.

The easiest thing to do is figure on a 64L tank and do the math from there, each 1/8 of a tank gives you 8L. I always play the mental math game at the pump to see if I can figure out how much gas it will take before it finishes. You should be able to get within 4L.

Or, if you're feeling rich, get a scangauge ii. You can program it to display many things (only 4 at a time though), including Distance to empty, mpg, fuel used, etc. etc. I mounted mine on top of the steering column using velcro, simple connection to the OBD port. There's also another post in this forum about it.
