I found a Passat wagon to trade straight across for my Passat sedan no money involved. Will the DMV still rape me for the 150.00 to pay for the state's vehicle value. Both cars are currently reg'd up.or will I just have to pay the 35.00 or so transfer fee.Lmk I don't wanna have to pay all those fee's and I just did it l;ast month.

Re: Need a DMV ?Q? Answered (bigquin)

I'm pretty sure the DMV is cracking down on this so they will probably charge you a percent of the kelly blue book value

Re: (euro_vw)

hahahahaha - sorry not to laugh, but I just think it's so funny how the DMV always finds ways to screw people when they figure the system out.
So here's the deal. I have recently experienced both those situations. I gifted my truck to my brother - it needed work and I didn't want to f with it. They charged him sales tax on $150.00 and also title transfer fees. Second, I recent bought a commuter car. Blue Book, 2650, guy didn't know that, bought it for 1250

. Oh, and we also did the paperwork for $500

so I go there with a bill of sale, the title and everything where it shows I paid $500.00, and they tell me the MINIMUM taxable value based on the market is $1650!!!@%#^$& They told me the only way I could get the tax based on the price we had agreed to is to bring in receipts showing that I had the car diagnosed with problems, and that it needed work.

So, I went to another DMV locally and I got lucky with a cute girl clerk who fudged it for me. But, the point is that now they are actually making you pay what THEY think it should be taxed on, unless you can prove otherwise. IT'S LIKE GOING TO COURT TO GET TABS!!!!!

FYI the licensing place I went to was the one in Lynnwood downtown FredMeyer.
Good Luck

Yeah see thats what sucks about this state the FMV of a car.I mean why is even charged.I love the state for how fast they turn around titles but the FMV is crazy!!I know in Cali and in Missouri you can a no cash registartion or a straight title transfer, and it is only 12.50-25.00.But I just don't get it.And the worst part is I seem to be in my DMV office every month and the ladies know me and I even hang out with them and look at baby pictures and they still say well the FMV is the FMV.I KNow what you mean about all the documants and all that crap but ugh who knows maybe I'll just pay the fee.And if they went by milage it would be so much more fair.the wagon has 200k on it and is going to be a future 1.8t swap andidate so if they wwent by milage it would be so sweet they would prolly give me money. But oh well thanks for the advice guys, looks like I'll be on the phone all morning figuring it out. http://****************.com/smile/emthup.gif http://****************.com/smile/emthup.gif http://****************.com/smile/emthup.gif

Ok man, here is the trick. Have the "seller" write you a bill of sale stating that he/she gave it to you for free. Make sure the condition is stated as "salvage, for parts". That has always worked for me. They have alittle book on the other side of the counter that changes the value of KBB stuff. That should do the trick. Tell them it has no engine or something. That way they (the oppressors) know it is in need of significant work to get it back on the road. HTH

Ya know here is the funny thing. I can sell used car equipment untill the cows come home. A car? If you sell it 5 times it gets taxed 5 times. Friggin satte is a rackteer, and criminal.
Damn Budget crunches allow State legislature ti find more and more creative ways to help remove th yopu form your hard earned dollar. Like the 30 Dollar tabs, While I thought a little on the low side yet good princple behind the idea. Now they just butt rape ya with a $200 processing fee. Ok I know it's not $200, but just wait All these little fees they keep plugging into things that you are mandated to pay yearly just keep going up to recoupe the states over budget crisis.
