so I got the '98 module and remote for my '97 and I programed the remote today for it. it unlocks the doors and the panic button works but the lock button just sets the alarm and does not lock the doors. what could be wrong? my doors lock when i use the button on the dash and when i use the key so i know they work. what could it be? bad module? need a new batery in the remote?

Do the doors lock if you wait a minute? The doors don't lock with the remote if the alarm ciontrol unit thinks something is open. It needs all doors, hood, & trunk closed, and a signal from the radio. If it's original radio make sure it is pushed in all the way.

My wiring is kind of jacked up, too. After I got a Viper installed in my car, my amber lights would only work as turn signals but would not stay solid as running lamps. Nobody can get alarms done right in VW's, it seems. The funny thing is that the dealer-installed alarm is manufactured by DEI (the same company that sells the Viper brand). The only reason I really got the Viper was because I wanted the motion sensor (after a break-in I got scared).
