Re: The car did 260km/h... (JuggeGTI)

from what i recall (don't quote me), it's 247km/h at 6250...if you're getting 6500 that will account for some extra, dial shouldn't be more than 3mph/5km/h out with the original wheels and tyres...must have a top engine under the bonnet/hood...

Re: The car did 260km/h... (JuggeGTI)

Keep in mind also, that at the top end, it's all a balancing act between horsepower
and aerodynamic drag. That means if there's a 10km/h tailwind, you pick up
10km/h at the top end. It's why true top speed runs are done driving both directions
on the same course within a relatively short period of time.

Re: The car did 260km/h... (JuggeGTI)

I believe the R32 is geared at 24.4mph per 1,000rpm in sixth gear i.e. theoretical 158.6mph max (255kmh?) if at the rev limiter max of 6,500rpm and assuming no top speed restrictor.
I haven't maxed mine.... yet

wasn't there a pact between German manufacturers to govern their cars at 155mph?

BMW & Mercedes abide by it, Porsche don't. I thought VAG did but then the RS Audis exceed 155mph in road tests.

Re: The car did 260km/h... (MIK VW)

I do not have a GPS in my car, but considering that a stated 100MPH on the speedometer is registered as 93MPH on my Climatronic, you are looking at a 7% error rating. Although, data suggests this is not linear. Porsches are notoriously optimistic, I would argue ours are the same. Irregardless, good work http://****************.com/smile/emthup.gif

Ya, had to hit the *NOS* to go fast enough to make the clock run backwards..

I'm not sure if those two photos were taken on the same day or not. 9-10am tends to
be about the time I find myself away from civilization out somewhere in Wyoming, Utah, Nevada wherever..

Re: The car did 260km/h... (VDUBfanatic)

I have heard before also that the speed shown by speedometer is diferent from the one shown by the Climatronic.
Image

Actually as per my personal experience, in 50 MPH driving, there was no difference. Or maybe the difference comes at higher speeds or maybe this comes becose of modifications in the car such lowering and bigger wheels.

Re: The car did 260km/h... (carma)

Downwind more likely. At the top end, it's nothing but a battle between
horsepower and aerodynamic drag, so a tailwind gives you that much more
top speed. That's why all legit top speed runs are required to run
both directions in a short time.
BTW, I don't encourage folks to take photos of their speedos at 150mph..
Easier to buy or borrow a GPS receiver. They'll almost all record average
and top speed for you, and they're accurate to within +/- 1/2mph at any
speed any car is capable of.
