The other day i looked under my dash and saw some random wires poking out covered in tape and not connected to anything. So yesterday I pulled off my dash to find the wires connected to my steering wheel column (I think that's what it is called). It appears that the previous owner used cable splices to splice into several wires from the steering wheel. Does anyone know why this might be? Photos attached

It's weird because when i undid the outer electrical tape, i found that some original wires coming into the plug have been directed to that bundle of unused wires. So instead of splicing those wires, they have just been cut/unused :s

Does this car maybe have trailer wiring? Look at front and rear, it could have been used to to a trailer, or could have been towed behind a motor home.

Ya know you really gotta admire some previous owners ingenuity....:banghead::banghead::banghead::banghead::banghead::banghead::banghead::banghead::banghead::banghead::banghead::bs:

I've spent more time reverting mickey mouse wiring, and fixing weird quirks than i actually have spent time driving my car. It has to be one of the quirks that comes with these old volkswagens. I've never seen it any other way when i've picked up a used car. They come up with problems and people fix them the way they know how and deal with it. It hits me right in the OCD coming across loose wires like that. :banghead:

omg thats the worst idea ever........

ruined your wipers yet?

and i have no idea what they were thinking at the starter switch

man stoopid

also, im super glad my cars were 99.9% unmolested when i bought them
