help me decide! there's a 2012 gti manual that's a demo for $30000 at the dealer. was $35185. options include 18" wheels, sunroof, leather, kessy, nav OR a brand new base 2013 gti? base gti is $29375.
demo unit is already a year old.
which one should i choose?

I'm in Canada too and just got a 2013 GTI this week. When you say that a base model 2013 costs 29375, that's the MSRP for a 3 door. You should be able to easily negotiate that down to near 28K. I did test drive a GTI with all the options as well and the leather, keyless start and nav are really nice if you are into that sort of thing, but personally I'd take a brand new base model for significantly less than a demo driver. Unless you can negotiate the demo car down further.

I'd go for the '12. The extra bits are worth it. Door trim, Nav, 18's (which you could sell if you want) sunroof, kessy, leather... I have everything but Nav in my 12, and sometime I wish I had of gone all the way when I bought it - but I knew I wouldn't use Nav much, and I got my own wheels and sills..

Wow. Glad I am in the US...
It's all relative. The base GTI in Canada isn't your base GTI in the US. It doesn't quite have enough goodies to make it on par, but it's not a straight $5,000 mismatch once you factor in the upgraded radio (RCD-510), Xenons, heated seats, and multifunction wheel that are standard on Canadian GTI's.

I had a similar dilemma when I was buying mine. Depends if you're the kind of person who'd regret not having a certain feature later on down the road. I went with the autobahn and I love it. Which ever one you get, good luck
