I know a lot of you don't have A/T but Id thought Id ask. I get this creeking/twisting sound when only reversing. If I go into reverse and hold down the brake (new pads btw) its really bad; if I let off the brake it will be slightly quieter but will go; and if speed it up a bit, it continues. Any help appreciated! Its been nagging me for a good while now!:banghead:

How are your rear brakes and bearings? Does your car have drums like our U.S. 8v cars do?

Could be one of the return springs is weak, broken, etc. May not hear it while going forward because your front brakes do the majority of the work. Just a thought...

Hmm,its hard to tell over the phone.
Is it coming from the front?
Jack up each wheel and spin the tire and listen for odd noises.
I kinda agree you may have a issue with the brakes.
Or pull the e-brake to tighten up the shoes.Just like a click or two.
Not a whole bunch just enough to change its normal resting point.

I think my shoes may need to be replaced. Use as a daily so I don't get much time in the search for issues. Just got done with that oil leak and now Im on to this because its been happening so long. My one question is this.....usualy you put down the ebrake and the red light goes off...lift up; on again.....okay, well it never turns off. Does this also act as a secondary "change your shoes" light???

The handbrake light is triggered by a microswitch on the handbrake lever - I'm not sure about the UK market Sciroccos, but on the US models, the same light doubled as the brake fluid warning - it's probably not related, but you should probably check your fluid level if it's staying on.

At first it just used to flicker and now it just stays on...

could be that your switches on the master cylinder are not switching anymore

if you have fluid and good pressure to each wheel then inspect the switch

or if you have a switch under the dash on the pedal inspect that one

it is possible to break the switch under the ebrake so that it shears off the plastic and stays on all the time
take a look at that first since its pretty easy

now as for the reverse creek....probally your shoes are worn out or stuck due to the adjusters
could also be your front pads are worn down and the calipers are sticking

you'll just have to spend a few hours inspecting the fronts, playing with the rears, and looking at your switches
no need to remove the rear drums just lift the rear tire off and (with the engine running) spin them and hit the brake lightly
the fronts you should remove the tire and closely inspect them
it also helps to remove the caliper and look at the pads.
