There is one locally the dealer has sold twice now (they posted pictures on their facebook page and all), then about a week later it was for sale again.. Both times? Weird. It's got over 200 miles on it now and they are selling it as used.

Hopefully they can get them all sold, impossible to trade one in when they have one on the lot. :sly:
Why would you want to trade one in? :p

Does hurt trade-in value, though.

I know firsthand here at VW Credit auctions that there have been on more than one occasion a used Golf R selling at auction for almost $40K. (MSRP here was $39,675)

Here in NY Golf R sales are terrible. I bought my 2012 R in october of 2012 and it was setting on the lot since May of 2012. I was pretty set on looking into a 2013 s4. They were basically begging me to buy the car that i got it 1000 bucks under invoice with zero percent apr for a 5 year loan. Since vw at the time had this promo where all 2012 vws qualify for zero percent apr. This was 1 of 2 2012 they had on the lot as well as 4-5 2013s. In a 20 mile radius i was able to find over 5 2012 Rs from multiple dealerships of my location. This is September of 2012 which means that these cars having been sitting on lots for a while.

Since most people spending upwards of 40 grand on a car in these parts are all about name brands. Why would i spend 35-40 grand on a vw when i can buy a bmw, audi, mercedes for around the same price? And most people into serious performance opt for the evo, sti, or mustang gt.

My clutch sounds like a garbage disposal, VW says it's normal and my dealership is going w/that. Just sick of hearing this noise every time I drive the car and wondering if/when something is going to act up and possibly leave me stranded somewhere. Listening to and worrying about it every time I drive the car has derailed my enjoyment, although the car is quite fun to drive I'd rather not have grinding noise coming from the clutch. Better luck next time I guess :sly:

I truly feel that people that can appreciate the R for what it actually is are few and far between.

You're right, many people buy the 'luxury' name as a status symbol for whatever reason. IMHO the Golf R is more nicely appointed than many of the 'luxury' brands in this price point.

Then there are others who look solely at the on-paper performance numbers to make their decision. Of these, how many are actually purchasing their cars with the primary intent to race? It's all about bragging rights of another sort.

I wanted a car that to me looked beautiful, was functional day-to-day, well equipped, and one that I felt 'connected' with man-to-machine.

I don't have the need to drop brand names at cocktail parties, I don't hang out at the local Dairy Queen, revving my engine and street racing. I'm not into 16 year old girls, nor am I interested in money-hungry women.

The Golf R/R32 owner is often one of discernable taste, modesty, and an enjoyment of the experience. :D

I might trade mine in and buy another one. I'm putting too many miles on it, and nothing coming out soon makes me happy.

I like the new S3 or RS3 sedan but damn, have heard nothing good about haldex 5 and not interested in DSG.

I hear you on that. I Try to purchase cars based on what fits my needs and what I would enjoy to drive. I have had everything from an evo 8 to a 335i. For me turbo AWD is the best thing since I live in the northeast and only have 1 car. I always had audis and never cared VWs since then never had much in the way of Turbo AWD. R32 never interested me since it was pretty slow and overpriced beyond belief. I'm glad that the Golf R is a 2.0L turbo to compete with the rest of the cars in the price range has unreal potential. I'm happy with my purchase and prefer a VAG car over just about any Jap car on the road except for maybe an R35 GTR which is far out of my price range.

With that persuasive attitude, vwoa gonna make a 2016 R with ecoboost lol
Yea ttrs is over 60 grand. What would be the point of having basically the same drivetrain in a golf? Just to say its a VW? Makes no sense. If thats what you want than just buy it dont worry about what brand car it is. You sound almost as bad as the people that buy auids/bmws/Mercedes for brand loyalty. And i would take a b8 s4 for 50 grand over any vw but thats me.

It's not all about money for everyone, I probably would have bought an Audi if there was a dealership anywhere near me. BMW / Mercedes are less than 2 miles from my house, and VW is about 7. Nearest Audi dealership is halfway across the state, 30-40 miles in either direction and 60 minute drive on the interstate. Not really ideal to have your nearest dealership that far away.. I'm not saying I would have dropped 60k on a TTRS because I wouldn't, just stating that there are people who would pay a little more for a "better" VW in situations such as mine. I'm sure there are others, but ideal market? No way, but the R isn't either in the US and they brought that over 3 times... :D

Hahah yea its not always about money but your obviously a rare case where it would make sense. VW cant even move the golf r. Doubt they would have luck with a 60 grand model. I doubt it will ever happen anyways.

Yea, not a chance in hell VW is going to sell anything at 60k. The only thing they have here that's priced near that is the Hybrid Touareg EXEC model and I'm sure the numbers on that are pretty slim.

That's like asking what would be the point of selling both a Golf R and a TTS?

Easy... More practical as a DD, less "look at me" styling, lower insurance, and, believe it or not, some people would rather not drive a car that is perceived as a status symbol (not saying I'm necessarily one of them). Doesn't hurt that it comes out significantly cheaper in the US albeit w/ an incredible amount of de-contenting...

Um not sure a tts is a fair comparison to a golf r. Tts is 50 grand as opposed to the golf r at 34-36 grand range. Also the golf r is much more practical with more room and trunk space. Its not really a fair comparison.

My guess is a 50 grand vw wouldn't be much less to insure than a 50 grand audi.

Point is the Golf R has the same powertrain as the TTS (aside from a 6MT rather than DSG, another factor that favors the VW over the Audi for me) like the hypothetical 2.5 T $50k Golf RS would have the same powertrain as a $60K something TTRS.

Seems like the hypothetical Golf RS would have just about the same relationship to the TTRS as the Golf R has to a TTS (ie: roomier, more subtle, cheaper, etc.)

Anyway, I don't really see it happening for the US, seems like a bit of a stretch even for the Euro market. I wouldn't be in the market for one as a DD and it would most certainly be too much coin for me to have as a toy even if a Golf RS did somehow wind up making it stateside.
