god damn do I hate MINIs
Just took mine out yesterday evening for a fun backroads romp all over northern MD. Found some nice new to me twisty little B roads and, with the sunroof open and tunes cranking, had a smile on my face. God damn do I love my MINI.

Counterpoint, love it when car guys are insulting asshats, it lets me be insulting right back.

I understand if Minis don't light your fire aesthetically. And everyone's entitled to their own opinion.

But if you really 'hate' Minis I think you need to re-test for your Enthusiast Card.

From I've read it's supposed to be slightly bigger, new 3 cylinder engine and possibly diesel, Cooper S keeping hte current 1.6l turbo, and no more center speedo (but the dash shape looks roughly the same).

That was about the dumbest idea for a speedo location... glad they finally fixed it :thumbup:

Exactly what I was thinking, they are one of the best FWD cars out there. Not sure where all the hate is coming from, this forum is oozing with anger latlely!

Best cars, period. They are crazy expensive and have not been historically reliable, but there isn't much out there that can touch the driving experience.

FYI: the current MINI has a digital speedo in the tach directly in front of the driver. The giant center speedo is merely a nod to the past.
Correct me if I'm wrong, but I think that's just an option and not standard equipment, right?

Interdasting. I understand why it was there ... but just didn't think it was a good idea ...

carry on ..

No, it's standard.

I have a base Countryman S and it has the center digital Speedo.

Basically there is a one inch by one inch box with enough room for two digits. So long as you go 99MPH or under, it displays your digital speed right in the center of the tach.

I never use the center-mount speedo.

Here's a picture of mine during the heat wave this past weekend.

Note: Upon closer inspection, it most certainly has enough room for 3-digit speed. I just haven't tested it out, yet.

The shots from above and with the reflector lighting up in the flash makes the headlights looks pretty weird. Not sure I like the hugenormous tail lights either. Can't wait to see it in person and I think it's dumb to get rid of the center speedo. Mini's are for fun and don't take themselves to seriously. We loved ours when we had it and still miss blasting around just running to get groceries or whatever.

this. we test drove a base Cooper 6MT and it was a BLAST. I think the S would be an insane car to daily.
