Hi Folks,

I'm looking for a DIY on how to remove the instrumentation cluster on a 2011 CC. I've seen some that are very basic, however, I'm looking for something more detailed with pictures to be exact. I would hate to break clips while doing so and would like to do the removal with little to minimal pain if possible:laugh:. Thanks!

Lets invite BORA RSI now :) he is the one who put premium cluster in!!!

I actually did the cluster swap too. I figured out the extra VCDS coding necessary and sent over to Bora a couple months ago. Since I think anyone else interested in doing this could benefit from this info, I'll just post the PM below:

The trim around the radio and the whole trim piece that goes over the gauges, as described here: http://forums.vwvortex.com/showthread.php?5119712-Premium-MFI&p=70787099#post70787099

Only took me about 5min to get full access to the cluster using my trim removal tools. No broken clips!

For VCDS, on top of copying over the adaptation settings for current mileage, etc, you will need to go into 17-Instrumentation and set it in Coding>Long Coding Helper as follows:

This will tell program the module for North America. Until I switched it from Great Britain and Passat/Wagon settings, it threw codes for airbag, ABS, traction control etc. It was NOT happy until I changed it to the proper coding.

Next, go into the adaptation section for 17 - Instrumentation, and set the following property:

Until I told it that the oil thermal sensor was NOT connected to the cluster, it thought the sensor was bad and caused an error. We don't have this sensor in our cars at all.

Finally, you can change the theme of the cluster:

Themes 1 and 3 are exactly the same and have the striped background with black buttons. Theme 2 matches with the RNS315 and has gradient backgrounds with silver buttons. I stuck with theme 1/3 since I like the black buttons.

Just make sure you copy down all your settings in your current cluster for mileage, service intervals, etc. These will all be in KM and must be reentered in KM when you go in and program the new cluster.

Good luck!

Now all I need is a link to one of those clusters and I'll be all set
Me and BORI RSI got the last two in Great Britain that were color premium MFI for gas engines AND in MPH instead of KPH. Very hard to find since they stopped making them. They were for a niche model in only a couple of European countries. Most are KPH and are for diesels.

Check out ebay.co.uk for 'passat r-line cluster' and you may get lucky!

No such luck unfortunately. Only 1 item shows up and it's a set of blue needles lol. I was actually viewing that cluster right when you bought yours and Bora scooped up the last one before I made my mind up :banghead:

Yeah, I saw one on there but it was diesel/kph. :( Just keep searching. It took about 2-3months of searching before I saw them pop up. carsystems.pl used to carry them, but stopped carrying ALL clusters earlier this year.

Love my cluster:)

As far as removing the cluster. Take the radio surround off and remove the radio. After that you'll see two screws on the side by the key hole. Than few more screws under the steering wheel right where the panels meet. Than remove the fuse panel and remove the screws there. Its easy. i lost all my pics when i changed phones but ill see if i can find a diy :)
