Just got a set of VMR v710s. Pretty much had to just get something and could not decide on anything so just went with the most generic wheel. But i like the look a lot.

The wheels are 18x8.5 et45 and i am running stock 225x40x18 tires on them. I dont in particular like the stretch for multiple reasons: too little rim protection, lost ride hight and got more wheel gap.

So i am looking to get a set of 235x40x18 tires. Will i most likely rub or will i be ok. I am on vwracing springs.

i figured with 235 tires i will gain about 8mm of ride hight and should have the arch filled up by 8mm too.
I believe you will gain 4 mm of ride height and close the fender gap by 4mm. I have VWR springs and 235/35x19 Michelin PSS and according to calculations (fitmywheels.com) is only .95mm more each way than what you are specing (of course with less side wall height). The 8.5" width will also be your issue as I am only 8". I had to do the fender screw mod immediately after driving a couple days. I noticed a slight rub in the front on large dips. Haven't felt anything up front since but noticed a slight rub in the rear on a large dip but haven't been able to identify it yet. Also, I am running the euro alignment specs posted on here and I'm not sure if there is any impact to that.

Good luck... :)

You are right looks like I will gain 4mm not 8mm.

If you rub with 8" wide rim I know I will for sure rub with 8.5" wheels:-/.

How about going with 225x45 that should give me some more sidewall.

8.5" with 235's will rub. I'm running 8"x18" ET 45 and 235/40/18's which do not rub at all now. I did the front arch screw delete and the rear had a small piece of metal sticking out where the rear arch and rear fender meet, which I removed as it caught the rear tire under maximum compression.

I run 18x8 wheels with 235/40/18's and I rub when I have 4 people in the car or hit a big bump .... otherwise its fine. I really love the level of comfort coming from the 235 tire ... you'd think that 10mm wouldn't be a big deal but sure was and still is ... car drives awesome.

I have been trying to figure out what may have rubbed back there as it was only once under high speed on a severe dip, but it wasn't that bad. Can you explain what you removed? As I was hoping to keep these tires since the fronts do not rub at all and if there is a minor fix for the rear than I will be all set.
