Kind of a shame to have skipped perhaps the most formidable pre-WWII multi-valve powerplant; the Duesenberg Model J straight eight.

I was going to say that the article understandably has a European slant, but then he talks about Harry Miller. It is not a definitive history for sure but neat to see the progression of design.
...and the article is over 20 years old
