Im installing coilovers on my 89 jetta gl. I can not stand working with an inch above the bolt. Anyone know how to access it from the back seat. I heard you can somehow get the thing behind the seats up for more room. All tips are appreciated. thanks

Removing the seat won't make it easier. You need to remover the rear deck/parcel shelf to he to the tops. There's even a big hole stamped to provide access from above. And to remove the rear you have to flip down the arm rest and remove the 4 nuts holding the seat to the back. It's really not hard!

Removing the back seat is not needed but as austin said there are four nuts in side where the arm rest folds into. All you need to do is remove the rear deck cover. To do so the rear pillar plastics must be unclipped by pulling on them inward careful it is plastic once loose if you look at the edge of the rear deck where it it meets the seat back you will see some metal tabs fold these up. Depending on how yiur speakers are mounted you may have to remove those as well. You will see the cover should now be loose granting you better access to the nut at the top of the strut.
