This is my WUR. Part# 063 133 403A

Notice the lttle black rubber cap half hidden by the fuel line. Looks like a vacuum port but it has no side ports like the Audi turbo WURs I've seen. Can anyone tell me what car it's from? I'm looking to richen my fuel mixture to eliminate ping at load. Will this work for me if I hook up some vacuum lines?

Re: Is this an Audi WUR? (4thScirocco)

that same WUR came on my '84 Scirocco(my '83 has the normal one though). From my VW CIS book it states that WUR is for california models, they have something hooked up to that vacuum port for altitude compensation. My car is definately not a california model, nor does yours appear to be as the ports are plugged up. HTH,

Pretty sure its just an atmospheric vent.. it compensates for being at different altitudes and adjusts your mixture a little.. the audi turbo WOR has a port on the side for boost. talk to nigel he may still have a spare one he'd sell you.
Also you should really look into getting a bigger cam for your high compression monster

You're probably right, it was too much to hope for

As for the ping, I think I'm going to try the Audi WUR first. My aircare results for the driving test seem to indicate that I may be running lean. But the idea of running a bigger cam sounds good too. Thinking Shrick 276 hydro or a copy thereof

A bigger cam will help drop your dynamic compression down to something more reasonable so that you will still make power up top like you shoudl with that compression and even more with a big cam.. but at idle and off idle you will have lower dynamic CR and wont ping as badly even if you run a little leaner.. its worth a shot since cams for 8V's are fairly inexpensive now.

You know, I think I'll try that. Gonna put the adjustable cam gear back to "0". With my head shave, I should have slightly retarded cam timing. That should also give me less dynamic compression right? I have it at +2deg now, it was at +4deg when you drove it.
