andover heating two days now

i was driving my car thursday night and it was 80 sum degress....temp light came on flashin...pulled over and let car cool down to normal...190...got it vag 30 mins lator...it showed that sencor "G62" was bad...went to dealer next day and bought a new temp sencor....and put the new one in and cleared the codes...once again light can flashing back on....just let the car idol to warm up in park...car still over heated...what its wrong with my car...some say its the thermostat...other say it might be the water pump???? i hear if its was the water pump it be leakin...but i have no leaks..i need help guys!!!

i hope so cause its a pain the a55 not havin m car runa nd that light keep on flashing on...im pick up a thermostat saturday morning...i hope that works or else it goin to the dealer and get a water pump put it... i was told it under power train warrenty....100 000 miles..so im crossin my fingers...what else can this cause this prolems...

This is downright strange, I am having the same problem. But its like 95 degrees here in south florida. The coolant level on my 98 GTi is good and the fans come on and all that, but its that dang light. even the gauge is reading strait up. I haven't had a coolant flush in like 50,000 miles, could that be it as well?

same thing happens to my car occasionally on start up. I've checked everything out it it all seems to be good. All I do is shut off the car and restart it and the light goes away.

Well something has got to be retarded with mine, it flashes all the time now, When the engine is cold, when im on the highway, at night without the A/c all the time. Its damn annoying. And i don't think its related to the temperature of the engine, are there any switches that could go bad and cause the light to go on but not effect the workings of the system?

Only know what an a2 cluster looks like- but does you light flash when it gets hot OR when the level is low? Could be that it's been low all along, or it boiled over when you heated it up and now it IS low.
Had a stuck thermostat before, it happens.
I'd go one step lower temp t-stat. People say you won't smog and all this crap, and you won't get heat during the winter- It's 115 here in the summer, and below freezing in the winter. Stays cold in the summer, and keeps me plenty warm in the winter.

I am having the same proplem with my 99 beetle. I has been coming on for a week and the fans do not turn on and it makes a hissing sound down by the ABS pump (right side near battery). I just want to trade the stupid thin in .

So I have a 99 Beetle for sale greyleather guts with full matching blue dash kit , TT pedals, Eurosport intake, Wedge wing, 17"TSW Cup (new tires), Ugly Altezza lights in the garage.

Punisher did you get it fixed and if so who did it I am tired of getting ripped off.

Make sure your fans are coming on. Could be the thermostatic switch in the rad. Make sure the coolant ball cover is air-tight and the system can sustain the pressure it builds up.
A failed water pump doesn't have to leak. It's the impeller inside that comes apart, not the bearing seal or housing gasket.

I had a similar problem but didn't get the codes. Symptoms were...
Overheat while driving.
Overheat faster when driving faster.
Was able to cool things down some by turning on the heater in the car but who want's to do that in the summer right?
Fans weren't turning on so I presumed their thermoswitch went bad.
Replaced that. Didn't solve problem. Fans still didn't turn on.
Actual cause of problem? Bad water pump. The pump's impeller actually began to come off the pump shaft and ended up getting hung up on the other half of the waterpump(part on the block). When this happened, the water didn't circulate and the engine overheated & because the water wasn't circulating the radiator fans never kicked on because the water in the radiator never got hot enough.
End solution? Replaced the pump. While I was in there I also replaced the Timing Belt (needed it) & the thermostat.
Hope yours ends up being something simple. Mine cost me $460 w/ parts & labor.

I have an 01 jetta 1.8t, it warms up to 190, stays there for a minute or two, then overheats like crazy, i've noticed once its considerably warmer than it should be, i can barely hear the turbo and it feels sluggish.
What the heck?
