Hey guys im planning a cross country road trip this summer from florida to san francisco, California and i wanted to know what you guys suggest i should do to prep my beautiful 2006 passat 2.0T for this trip

My car has around 120K miles on it but its been maintained pretty well, i just put on new shoes on her so she should be fine there, new Forge WINtake installed as well.

and if anything you can give me ideas where to stop on the way to california!

Make sure you have a fresh cam follower in there before the trip.

Has all other maintenance been performed? Timing belt, brake fluid, trans fluid, valves cleaned (not normal schedule maintenance but will help mpgs) spark plugs coil packs ect

The g12 coolant you'll need to get at VW, German Auto parts, or ECS Tuning

yeah i was going to buy it from ECS and they sell it by the liter or 5 liters just dont know how much fluid the entire system takes up if they do a full flush

edit: nvm i found it, aprox 8 liters so ill be getting 8 liters to replace what i have in there.

Check list on my road trip would be

Seafoam (gas, oil and intake)
Full tune up after seafoam (filters, spark plugs, oil)
Flush coolant
Tranny fluid if it hasn't been done
Inspect all coolant hoses
Inspect accessory belt and pulleys
Inspect cam follower

Keep extra oil and coolant.

Keep in mind synthetic oil should be good till around 7500 on straight trips.

3k-5k are for guys driving in harsh conditions (stop and go, cold weather)

Or G12+ or G13. They're all backward compatible. But not, repeat not, with the olde blue or green colour coolants. If you still have that then it has to be flushed out completely, then re-fill with your latest pink at 50% preferrably with boiled water. we're very chalky over here from the tap. The old mixed with these new ones can turn into a gel

I don't believe in Seafoam for a direct injection engine such as our 2.0L tFSI
I do believe in having a brake fluid flush every two years irrespective of mileage with whatever your VW spares department recommends for your VIN

Thanks for the info! I'm having pepboys do a full flush next week and have them fill it back up with the g12++. Unless I can do it myself? Looked into it but I don't know where to get the pump that will suck out all the current coolant

Just spent fruitless 20mins searching for my old brake fluid bottle which had the VW spec # on it. So my edit for brake fluid flush was later than your post. Enjoy your trip.
When last over in US did NYC to Buffalo and Niagara in an ex-scrappy T-bird.
Faultless. Should've transhipped it back to UK...

Someone said take a 5qt jug of oil I second the motion. Dont forget the funnel and roll of paper towels. Well if your 2.0 drinks oil like my 3.6 then you won't need to do an oil change. You will be putting a quart in every 1,000-1,500 miles anyway. By the time the trip is done, you will have changed the oil. Just change the filter when you get home LOL. Seriously, i am changing mine at 10,000 miles because i add a quart every 1,000-1,500 miles. I am constantly replenishing the additive package of the oil. I use the castrol syntech 5W-40 the dealership recommends and its the only one with the VW approved 502 label on the back i can easily find at local parts stores.

Oh yeah a flashlight and condoms!
