I just saw this youtube video of a stock 2014 Chevrolet SS going up against proper fast machinery. For a large fully loaded sedan that doesn't use too many fancy materials, it acquitted itself quite well.

2014 Chevy SS press fleet car. Bone stock running in the Open Passing group at the April 24 Hooked On Driving Sonoma track day.

Not really many clean laps because there were so many cars out that day. Looks like times were approximately in the 1:58 - 2:03 range typically with the traffic. My Race Chrono on my Galaxy S3 wouldn't consistently time the laps. Probably another couple seconds in the car if I tidied it all up and pushed. Saving the brakes and not trying to set any records.

Lot's of fun and the SS makes a nice track day/daily driver.

Do want that green!

Just got around to watching the Test Drive episode again. Definitely recommended if you enjoy seeing one of these hustle.

and the fatman seats... and the plastichrome.

Look at that heavily spaced and shallow bolstering. Perfectly tailored for a wide American ass.

This is more like it. Ideal option for a lean athletic build... oh wait. They don't do those in 'Murica. :banghead:

Stop being an ass. Fact is people who buy a full sized V8 sedan aren't going to be hipsters or the svelte 30 year old in every car commercial. The guys buying these are going to be middle aged, with a middle aged gut, and that means they want a seat that is comfy for the commute, roadtrips, while wearing nice clothes... but still bolstered enough for spirited drives. Full sized sedans are obviously a compromise to let a middle aged family man have something fun. If you want a pure performance ride, the Corvette would be much better. So why on earth would GM shove man-boy seats in a SS?

Put another way, only an idiot would want a full sized sedan as the starting point for a performance car UNLESS they needed that extra space for a family or to haul people/stuff. The Euro snobs won't buy an SS, the young guys will look at any of the lighter and smaller options...so I ask again - who is the target demo for this car? Do you really think that demo has a 'lean athletic build?' Hell, every Porsche and M series BMW I see is either driven by a college kid or a older non-athletic looking guy.

It is relatively bland, but the usual mods will sharpen them up just fine, and the guys referenced above don't want some over-the-top design that screams for attention. I applaud the fact that GM has not put out another muscle car copy ala the Charger, but a modern high-performance car with a man-pedal. I don't live in an area to allow such a car, but otherwise...I would be interested if I lived in a nicer climate.
