Hey guys,
Small problem. 2006 GLI.I am getting an error code on my dash MOST of the times I switch my lights on. Left taillight defective. This only happens when I turn my lights on at night, therefore I cannot signal at night, from the rear left side at least, but when I switch the lights off and I'm only running DRLs, everything works fine and the code on the dash disappears.
I've changed both bulbs on that side and it doesn't solve it. And why this happens some times and not other, I don't know. Suggestions anyone?
One more unrelated thing, my inner lights have never come on, I just drive my DRLs day an night, use bi-xenons for high beams. How do I fix that

My '06 2.0T just started doing this last week; rear right-hand side. Sometimes the blinker in the cluster blinks fast, sometimes it doesn't. I sporadically get the message in the MFD too. I haven't tried any fixes yet. Sub'd.

Before I say anything, I'm not a professional and I have no idea what I'm talking about.

That being said - the reason it only comes on when you actually turn your lights on is because it doesn't sense that somethings wrong until the circuit doesn't complete. I had an '07 Rabbit and noticed that it only knew if a light was out when I actually tried using that light. Have you turned on all your lights and inspected the car to see which light it actually is? If you've changed the correct bulb and it still doesn't work I would guess you have a loose connection. I suspect it's at the taillight because that's the only error message you're getting. If it was me, I would remove the affected tail light and inspect for loose connections and such. If your reaction to my message is "I've tried all that stuff," I recommend going to Dunkin Donuts or whatever donut establishment you have where you live. Buy 2 dozen and take them to the VW dealership. Skip the front desk and go directly to the men and women that actually work on the cars. Good mechanics typically work for donuts when it comes to minor problems. Additionally, buying donuts for the mechanics show that you're both desperate and friendly. Once you have an "in" with a good mechanic, life gets just a bit easier. Good luck sir.

Regarding your fast and not fast turn-signal. That sounds like the relay. It's an easy fix.

Yep I had this same issue. Everyonce in a while I would get a right front parking light out, then a left ear signal and it would blink fast.

I end up having a melted harness on my passenger side marker light. Replaced the harness, new bulb, and housing. All is good.

Ok I'm bumping this up before creating a new thread because I have this exact same problem. When I turn my headlights on the rear left turn blinker stops working. This only happens when the headlights are on, during the day with the DRLs running everything is fine. I've changed the bulbs even switched sides and tried different bulbs and the same thing occurs with the rear left turn blinker. It's like a switch as soon as I turn on the headlights the "lights out" indicator on the dash comes on and my left rear blinker stops working and the signal on the dash blinks fast. Every other light works fine including the front blinker.

Anyone have any ideas? OP did you get this fixed and how? Any input is appreciated.

Btw 2006 Jetta 2.5

Thanks,
Shadi

Isn't there a recall or something for a fuse or fusebox out right now? I think I got a letter in the mail stating this...same symptoms and all it seems. If I'm wrong, sorry.

Really? I didn't get anything, I'll have to look into this thanks!

I had the same issue, tried everything and then I switched to euro tails. Before doing so, I reinstalled the sidemarker bulbs I took out previously, which solved the problem. If your front bumper sidemarker bulbs are burned out or missing, this could cause the problem you are having the tail. It was an intermittent problem for me, but annoying nonetheless.

That recall concerns the fuse box under your hood and a specific fuse there. If there's a problem, it causes all the lights on the right side of the car to go out:

So that's not the problem here.

If you got the letter, and haven't gotten it done, you probably should...
