I'm relieved to read that these first drives went well and the initial reviews are positive. But to be realistic, these first drives tend to be positive as they are being driven on carefully chosen routes and in a vacuum. What will be interesting is when the buff books are able to drive these back-to-back with the competitors on everyday roads. All in all though, it looks like this trucklet outshines most if not all competitors.
Interior volume is about on par with, say, a YJ or TJ Wrangler, but that's more a product of the packaging than the actual vehicle size. It's not big.

No, it's smaller than both (pretty close though), and all of the vehicles were locked at NAIAS :(
I thought it was smaller than both when I saw/sat in it, but the two lines in the misc. articles already posted had me wondering if I was remembering the original Cherokee as bigger than it really was.

The Renegade in Lattitude trim was open at NAIAS this past Tuesday:

Did I read in one of the reviews that this thing is about the same size as the old Cherokee and it's about the same size as the current 2 door Wrangler? Maybe my reading comprehension is off today, but it definitely doesn't seem as large as those two trucks, and I've seen and sat in the Renegade in person.
It's a Fiat 500L

It's actually not smaller at all. The XJ Cherokee was quite compact. FWIW, the Renegade has more usable passenger space, but less maximum cargo capacity than the old Cherokee.

XJ Cherokee:

101.4" wheelbase
165.3-168.8" length*
64" height
67.9-70.5" width*

* = depending on trim/model

Renegade:

101.2" wheelbase
166.6" length
66.5" height
71" width

It is just a modern Cherokee with independent suspension and a high tech AWD system. I'm game.

Yikes, it seems these can get pricey with options.

The fairly loaded Trailhawk tested in this video which does not appear to have the removable roof option is $30,245. I'm guessing around $32k for a fully-optioned out Trailhawk, which is significantly more expensive than anything in this class. Granted, it's more capable offroad, but I think anything over $29k is really pushing it when it comes to a compact, NA 4-cylinder CUV.

Pricing at 3:00:

 LMAO of all the pics of it off-road. Is mommy really going to take it anywhere off road while her brats are screaming in it, she has a headache and just wants to pick up groceries with her new entry level mommy-mobile? :screwy: What kind of idiot is still under the impression that these vehicles are used mainly for off road use now?

I would own this as a DD, and yes, I would take it off road. Does it matter to me that most will be driven by women as familymobiles? Not one bit. Do you also get butthurt when people own European sports cars and don't take them to the track?

Damned if they do; damned if they don't.

Did you read the articles or just look at the pretty pictures? No one believes these are used 'mainly for offroad use.' The articles clearly state that the Renegade is pretty nice drive on roads. In addition, one trim level, Trailhawk, is pretty darn capable off road as well. No one is saying it's a great offroad vehicle; they're actually saying that it's a pretty nice vehicle. Period. But it *is* a Jeep, and it the Trailhawk can go offroad, which is what Jeeps are supposed to be able to do. And pictures of a funky little truck scrambling over rocks are far more interesting than that same truck driving down the road.
