So damn fun looking. And it has a fraternal Italian urban twin!?

Am still interested & waiting on the next Gen Compass/Patriot replacement though.

Did you read the articles or just look at the pretty pictures? No one believes these are used 'mainly for offroad use.' The articles clearly state that the Renegade is pretty nice drive on roads. In addition, one trim level, Trailhawk, is pretty darn capable off road as well. No one is saying it's a great offroad vehicle; they're actually saying that it's a pretty nice vehicle. Period. But it *is* a Jeep, and it the Trailhawk can go offroad, which is what Jeeps are supposed to be able to do. And pictures of a funky little truck scrambling over rocks are far more interesting than that same truck driving down the road.
For me it is comfortable to know that my little urban run-about can also handle hunting trips.

 LMAO of all the pics of it off-road. Is mommy really going to take it anywhere off road while her brats are screaming in it, she has a headache and just wants to pick up groceries with her new entry level mommy-mobile? :screwy: What kind of idiot is still under the impression that these vehicles are used mainly for off road use now?
I'm going to guess you're the same kind of person who'd berate said mommy if she did take it offroad. Kind of like those stupid nerds who complain that there isn't enough women gamers and geeks, who then turn around and talk **** about the hot chicks who dress up and cosplay at the conventions. :screwy:

For those of us who hunt and fish and tow snowmachines and also work downtown, and for those who crave silly things like heated steering wheels and decent fuel economy and don't want to pay $40k, it's the perfect utility, and one of the first to check all of my boxes. The styling isn't offensive, and it at least offers everything one would want for this type of vehicle, including multiple colors.

It's actually not smaller at all. The XJ Cherokee was quite compact. FWIW, the Renegade has more usable passenger space, but less maximum cargo capacity than the old Cherokee.

XJ Cherokee:

101.4" wheelbase
165.3-168.8" length*
64" height
67.9-70.5" width*

* = depending on trim/model

Renegade:

101.2" wheelbase
166.6" length
66.5" height
71" width

A lot of that width seems to be in the curvy fenders. Since it is Fiat small car based it probably is pretty narrow inside..

im looking forward to TCL running out and buying these in droves.

i think its hideous and as someone mentioned will likely become the new go-to HS girl ride, but either way i suspect jeep has a massive hit on their hands.

Well, for the people who are complaing, what's the alternative? You're pretty much stuck in some sort of stereotype no matter what you buy; you have the sideways-hat wearing bros who drive pickups, the moms who drive CUV's and minivans, the yuppies who drive volvos and subarus, the fake rich who drive chrysler 200's and nissan maximas, the snobby, insecure vw/audi owners who are always intimidated by anything with a bmw badge, etc.

I just don't see these as having any more pretense than any other vehicle.

Oh so sorry I offended your masculinity dude.
You're the only one here mysogynistic enough to worry about your masculinity and be insulting about a car that seems to be popular across a wide swath of TCL.

But hey, if you have to have your car generate your testosterone for you, you go with your bad self.

Oh so sorry I offended your masculinity dude. But it's 2015 and we all know what mommy is cruising around in now long after she dumped her minivan and station wagon. But hey if you wanna buy Jeep's and other SUV's BS marketing be my guest.
There'll come a time when you realize that all that petty **** you care about doesn't matter. If something suits your perception of what you want and provides you a certain level of satisfaction for its intended purpose, what does it matter what it is?

You either drive an old tacoma or subaru and don't buy beyond what is necessary and **** on those who do, or you buy into prestige and 'quality' and hold it to a higher standard than others; either way you're a grumpy, miserable songbird with one note.

Someday, you're going to grow up enough to realize what a hugely narcissistic, nasty, shallow little tool you are, and the first flickerings of empathy will flicker in your narrow little skull. We're all looking forward to that. In the meantime, keep in mind that you are owed absolutely no justification by anybody.

I think La Ferrari is in his early 20's. I remember having a similar craptastic attitude when I was that age.

Yikes, it seems these can get pricey with options.

The fairly loaded Trailhawk tested in this video which does not appear to have the removable roof option is $30,245. I'm guessing around $32k for a fully-optioned out Trailhawk, which is significantly more expensive than anything in this class. Granted, it's more capable offroad, but I think anything over $29k is really pushing it when it comes to a compact, NA 4-cylinder CUV.
Have you checked out the price for Countryman? Cooper S All4 with some options can top $35k...

You can get a Buick Encore to $30k and Juke NISMO AWD is over $30k too.

The profit margin on these little CUVs must be pretty amazing. Dodge could never dream of charging $30k on a B-segment hatch, GM only wish Sonic is $30k, and Nissan will sh!t itself if people are willing to pay $30k for a Versa.

Oh, we all did, before we realized that the rest of humanity wasn't extras and redshirts in a movie starring us.

The specs are almost carbon copy of the Soul
That actually has pretty good interior space. You're not sitting three dudes side by side in the back seat, but the upright form factor makes it feel as roomy as any C-segment car.
