Aaz swap mk1 cabriolet

Hi guys!

Pretty new here to the forum and just getting into the whole volkswagen scene. I have a CIS 1989 volkswagen cabriolet I'd like to swap in an AAZ diesel engine.

I've talked to a few people and I've been told all I need is the engine as the wiring harness can be spliced into my existing one. Im wondering if anyone has done this swap before and if they could give me a list of what I need to get from the donor car, and what will need fabrication/welding.

All I really have planned is to pull the engine and the diesel throttle cable, and mate everything to what came stock with the car.

Please guys let me know if this will work, if i need a transmission, ecu, axles or anything else please help!!

No need for an ecu from what I understand. That is the beauty of the aaz.

Just use the cabriolet's senders for oil temperature, oil pressure, coolant temperature. Any mk1-mk3 tranny will work, but a rabbit trans (up through 84) will have 90mm flanges while any after that will have the 100mm flanges that your cabby had. I would try to get a trans with 100mm flanges for that reason.

Aside from that, get an exhaust shop to mod the downpipe for you.

I've done this swap. Was fun and cool as heck. Sadly the cabby died and I didn't have the best pictures of it after I cleaned up the bay some.

Right after I got it running..there were still wires and stuff everywhere. That was all cleaned up though before it got wrecked

KO3/KO4 HYBRID 21 psi

2.5 TT DOWNPIPE

CALLAWAY INTERCOOLER IC frpm bell intercoolers

PD150 INTAKE WITH RACE PIPE
( PD150 LH facing )

I will be making a silicone duct to come off the ko3 hybrid facing Lh to run into the 2' callaway silicone ic ducting

With a giles pump 165hp

I suggest a mcnally EGT/boost guage

Here is a closed airbox assy, the duct you see is for the ramair intake at the bottom of the box assy , cone filter performance with no noise
