Hi all,

Long time reader, first time poster :)

• I have a 2006 Jetta (2.5L) that I discovered has a broken coil spring on the front right side.
• About 9 months ago, I replaced the full strut assembly (including coil) on the front left side.
• However, I failed to also replace the coil on the right side.
• As a result, I think this contributed to the broken spring on the right side (along with all the winter pot holes).

I was wondering if you experts out there could tell me if I now need to replace the full strut assembly on the right hand side, or if I need only replace the coil? As I'm sure you can appreciate there's quite a price difference between these option (about $373CAD for just the coil/mounts vs. $687.12CAD for the full strut assembly).

Thanks!

Replace both the coil and the strut.

A strut can easily be inspected upon removal to verify it still functions, but keep in mind not all struts/shocks are created equally.
Some are just oil filled, where others have oil and nitrogen. Nitrogen is a gas hence "gas strut/shock" labels.

I would only replace the right side with the same exact brand and model you used on the left previously.
You want a matching set.
