Rumors of BMW working on a new M2 model have been swirling around for ages, but this is the first piece of hard evidence that we have on the car. It looks like it's an early prototype that incorporates the expanded front fenders from the M235i Racing with more bloated rear fenders than the regular M235i Coupe used to widen both tracks.
It might be missing the signature "M" quad tailpipes and bumper designs, but other clues that point to the car being a tester for the upcoming M2 include the larger M3/M4 style, double-spoke alloy wheels mounted on Michelin high-performance summer tires behind which we see the blue brake calipers with cross-drilled rotors.
In its final production form, the M2 should also get a reshaped hood, bumpers and door mirrors. Whether BMW will also give it a lighter carbon fiber roof remains unknown.
While a heavily tuned turbocharged inline-four would make a lot of sense for a car that many BMW fans see as a modern day M3 E30, most sources seem to agree that the Bavarians will probably give the M2 a 3.0-liter turbocharged-six that will split the power difference between the 320hp M235i and the 414hp (420PS) M3/M4 duo at around 370-horses.
That's what I'm thinking. For the first six months or year it'll be very hard to get one, but after that everything will normalize.it seems like it might be limited by production capacity.
^^^I think that has a lot to do with it.I'm less excited about this now that a 500hp, naturally aspirated, 8,000+rpm Mustang exists for less money![]()
Based on rumors it seems like the same recipe to me, non-m engine with M3 suspension bitsThe sold like 750 1M's to the States, made 6k total?
My hopes are not high for this to be a full production kind of model. But maybe since it feels less of a special hacked-together thing this time around.
How much more "fun" for you to drive this instead of your current 991 in Toronto road? specially in the "car hating" GTA (keep doing more bike lanes, road construction everywhere, road closing everywhere...)I ask because I would seriously consider selling the 991 for this car. I think it could be more fun.
Have you driven 4C? Almost every review of this car are crazy about it...I don't know, I had a blast around in a 135i a few years ago when it was new and it was the most fun of any car I'd driven other than a Porsche.
I think they learned from the 1M and this is going to be a more widely produced thing. The sold like 750 1M's to the States, made 6k total?

I don't even know where there's an Alfa dealership in the GTA.Have you driven 4C? Almost every review of this car are crazy about it...
Dealerships have been taking deposits. I think it is confirmed for production later this year like November/early 2016 release. It won't be so limited like the 1M. Engine is a reworked version of the N55 with around 370 HP/350 TQ.Okay, so question. Let's say someone is like, huh that's cool. I'd like to buy that car. What does he do? Gets on some crazy waiting list? Pays $20K over MSRP? The thing that frustrates me with cars like this is they just seem unobtainable.

We've become numb with all the performance options at the 50-60K level. What?! It doesn't have 700 hp? Yawn...
OK, I'm exaggerating too. But still, there are a lot of new & used options at this price point. A flavor for everyone.
This is very relevant to my interests. Do you think a rear-facing baby seat would fit in the backseat of the M2? It should right?Dealerships have been taking deposits. How tall are you and significant other? Modern rear facing child seats take up a crazy amount of room. Likewise, unless it's the first 6 months when they're in the carrier and base system, I sure as hell wouldn't be wanting to climb back there every time to try and strap the kid in.This is very relevant to my interests. I'm 5'10'' and my SO is 5'8''. The rear-facing child seat would go behind her seat in the back. I'd love to know that it would fit without her having to jack her seat all the way forward. I've seen pictures of them fitting in a 991 rear seat but the front seat is pulled forward nearly to the dashboard. The only motivation to get an M2 over the 991 would be for a better rear seat situation for le bébé if/when we have one.How tall are you and significant other? A rear facing car seat would not fit in my 135i behind a 5'5" passenger. I waited until the kiddo was front facing and put her in there exactly once and said never again. I haven't tested with a 2er, but I doubt it'll be much better then the 1er. The infant carriers work best in the middle of the rear seat and can come up between the front two seats but you can't do that with the 2 series because they don't have a middle rear seat, just the plastic shelf.I'm 5'10'' and my SO is 5'8''. Not to mention 0.00% of those people would by one anyways and likely 0.00% of those people have even driven the old cars they speak so longingly about.I love this. You keep updating this thread, about a new small BMW //M that's going to have 400hp and cost less than $60K, and literally, crickets.
Thread about BMW ditching manuels blows up to 5 pages in a few hours.
This is TCL. We'll buy it used in 10 years. Not to mention 0.00% of those people would buy one anyways and likely 0.00% of those people have even driven the old cars they speak so longingly about.
You will HATE the entire year (or so) of loading a kid into a rear facing seat in a coupe. This is very relevant to my interests. Do you think a rear-facing baby seat would fit in the backseat of the M2? It should right?
