After looking at the ams and vf chargers it seems that ams gives you more hp for cheaper in the mk3 application since for roughly 4g's you get a 10psi pully with the charger versus the 6ps with vf.....so im not gonna pay the same money for less psi but could not find any site with info on a AMS kit for the mkIV's??? does it exist??

Re: AMS charger for mkIV vr6's??? (Daemon42)

do they plan on putting one out anytime soon to compete with vf?? cause it seems like vf is making loot with all the people i see rockin thier kits??? it seems it would be smart for AMS to do so at least from my point of view

Lets face it AMS has dropped the ball on there Kit sense it came out. If you pick up a new AMS kit for a golf 3 you need to fix the fueling problem and that adds to the price and NO OBD1. They never have fixed it and there chip blows as well. That is why they lable it as 8.5 PSI as you are not to rev to high. There kit has been out for a couple years now and not a single update. No cold air intake and a crappy small filter. Will soon add a HUGE K&N confilter to my carbon fiber intake as well.
As for VF, Hey if you want 210 HP out of stage one and do not want to stress the car and got 3500+ dollars then go for it. I meen jeez 6 PSI is diddly. I can not describe how fun 11 PSI at 6800 RPM is. Second gear shift at 70mph into 3rd and BAM off like a rocket.
I love a good rant.

ok i get all that but can a AMS kit be fabricated to a mkIV....say it attatches the same and just fabricate a custom pipe fromt the charger to the intake intlet which on the mkIV is on the opposite side as the mk3....if you did this would the charger work and i would just need to find a decent chip to make it tuned right say a EIP stg 2 chip or somthing??? just a thought????

Fueling and programming for the VF kit is done by GIAC and is spot
on. Plus, VF has awesome after sales customer service and that
counts for a lot in my book.
BTW, my stage 1 puts out 226 to the wheels ... not shabby at all and
the car runs just like a VR6 should. Smooth and linear power http://****************.com/smile/emthup.gif

You make very good points all the way around. Keep in mind I be a poor cheap ass. LOL So I am always fighting for the best deal and I am willing to wate. I did not get my AMS kit till I found just the right deal. Very low miles from a good person for dirt cheap..

226 is not to bad at all. What was the torq like.?

Torque is 202.
BTW, the total expense is what counts- if you get a good deal on the
kit but end up spending $$ to get it to run right, then you have spent
equal to more $$ total, plus the headache.
Let the kit makers do the tuning and we enjoy the end results

Re: AMS charger for mkIV vr6's??? (JETTSET)

Here is an interesting note or a diffrence that I am seeing between the V1 and V9 Vortech units as it relates to HP and torq:
Most of the V1 kits seem to have about the same Hp as the V-9 but the V-9 does not make as much torq. I would be most interesting to see a few V1 and V9 cars back to back with the boost mapped logged or plotted as well as air fuel and power per RPM..

jettsett....what other mods do you have to your car to get that output, and 255 wheel would be roughly 275 or 280 crank?? and do you have a LSD............last one..was the stg 2 worth the 5 or so grand? sorry for all the Q's

Re: AMS charger for mkIV vr6's??? (JETTA PSYCHO)

255.9 with a correction factor of 15% for a Mustang dyno is equal to approx 295hp@ crank. I run a Quaife LSD, 4puck feramic clutch and a 7lb aluminum flywheel. The only other engine related mods are cat-back Neuspeed exhaust and lower rad temp rad fan switch and thermostat.

Re: AMS charger for mkIV vr6's??? (Mackie-1604)

He has a VF kit and they spent the R&D time to get the fueling right. So that as one other person said is one of the upsides to spending more money for the VF as those problems have been solved.
But if you own a OBD1 VR6 then look for a 2200 bucks used AMS kit. 300 for an atp chip and some Ford 30lb injectors and you are good to go. You will have spent less but there are trade off's. It depends on how you are set for cash.
I think that NO matter what kit you buy VF or AMS or home grown. Spending some cash for a dynop and wide band is a TOTAL must for peice of mind. Heck you just spent 3+ grand what is a hundred bucks or so.

I love my vf stage 1. But I only see 4 psi most of the time. VERY rarely 5 psi. But there is something wrong with my car for sure becuase all my stock rev/speed govenoring is still there. I'm waiting to figure out how to check codes becuase the revo guys couldn't get a connection with my computer. We unhooked my aftermarket radio at that time. We were gunna try leaving the radio hooked up to get a connection but we forgot about it over the weekend (this was at waterfest). Does anybody else have to leave there aftermarket radio hooked up to get the vag to work?

The Vag has nothing to do with the radio

If the k wire is hooked up to the radio it can f* up the vag...or something to that exten.
NOW BACK TO TOPIC...
I was thinking about this...could I buy the ams mk3 8 psi pulley and some 30lbs injectors and be good to go on the vf stage 1 chip?
