DIY: Honk To Chirp Alarm Mod, for about $10
I bought my 18th VW on Friday (15' GLI), so of course, I had to personalize it. I've never liked the honk that the factory alarm has for confirming lock. This gives the car an updated chirp. Video at the bottom.
This DIY is very similar to the one I wrote up and posted in the mkiv forums years ago, as the location of the oem alarm horn is almost exactly where it was on the mkiv's.
I did a diy writeup in the mkv forums when I did this mod as well (for you mkv peeps). I have done this to dozens of cars, ranging in years and generations.
But onwards to one of my favorite and cheapest mods to do to VW's from 1999+
Tools/ Materials Needed:
-12v 6 tone auto alarm horn
-10mm socket, open end wrench
-wire cutters
-trim removal tool (optional)
-electrical tape, soder-gun, shrink wrap
1. Crack open beer
2. put your wipers in winter/service mode (turn off engine, press down once on wiper control arm, before opening door. This parks the wipers in an upright position)
3. Open hood
4. Drink beer, admire how clean your engine bay is not.
5. Locate the middle of your rain tray. The horn is directly below where the two tray pieces overlap. remove the rubber trim from the front, peel it back just past the middle (I can confirm this location on all 15's)

6. Hows that beer? Check for leaks.
7. Remove passenger side section of rain tray. This part can be a bit finnicky to pop out. it sits in a tight little slot right under the glass. I find it easier to start on the corner, push from underneath straight up.
Be patient, dont apply pressure to your glass.

8. Now you should see the horn mounted to its very own mount. unscrew the single bolt that holds the aluminum horn bracket. once done, should be easy to unplug horn (push down on clip, pull)

Depending on the size of the alarm horn you bought, you might be able to mount it on the oem horn bracket. I ordered a bunch of these specifically to do this on these cars, so I knew they would fit.
If yours doesn't, mount it somewhere out of the way on the passenger side (theres no wiper linkage on that side that may interfere)

9. Take a break. It's been a rough day, have another beer. You deserve it champ.
10. Add mini spades to the alarm wiring. I ran out, so I clipped down a couple spades I had. Crimp, soder, and shrink wrap. (Ive never had this mod fail on the dozens of cars Ive installed it on)

11. plug in the horn, reinstall bracket. The car side connection is positive on the curved side, negative on the flat side i.i.r.c.

12. reinstall the rain tray. Bit of a pain on a new car, but basically work backwards, pushing the tray back into the wedge/slot, starting from a corner, all the way around, until the tray sits flush or a bit lower than the glass.
