Re: Roadtrip- Chicago to New Mexico... any place I should stop along the way? (abe1.8t)

I really can't think of any,
if you are with people, I mean more than one car or with more than yourself, just have fun, gas outposts on main highways are great, tons of funny funny stuff,
I remeber on the way back from jersey some people (I won't mention names) tried on some cow boy boots, others bought cop sunglasses, a hulk doll, and a sausage. Part of our crew was also tagged with a big 24 mounted crooked on the bumper.
Mainly all I can tell you is have fun, make use of the humor around you, makes the trip fly by and a lot easier, http://****************.com/smile/emthup.gif http://****************.com/smile/emthup.gif http://****************.com/smile/emthup.gif
have a safe trip http://****************.com/smile/emthup.gif

If you are going through Amarillo, stop in at the Big Texan restaurant. It’s a local landmark and great steaks. On the east side of town off I-70 is several Cadillac’s buried partially in ground. Some rancher thought it would be interesting to place them all lined up and at the angle of the great Pyramids.

We did that drive (past it actually) a few years ago... there is this great book on Rt. 66 I'd highly recommend you get to look at ahead of time and see if anything in there strikes you as a fun place to stop along the way

....one place I can think of Cadillac Ranch (Amarillo, TX) with all the cars buried in the ground... and this place to eat that serves a 72oz steak that is free if you can finish it all

The book is called:
Route 66 Traveler's Guide and Roadside Companion (second edition)

By Tom Snyder

I think I got it at Borders if I remember right...
I still have all sorts of bookmarks and stuff highlighted in it.... If anything, it is a great fast read... pretty thin book...
ISBN 0-312-13162-3
If you want to borrow my copy, shoot me off an IM and you are welcome to pick it up from me at work... just give me advance notice so I know to bring it with me....

You could always stop by Phoenix... I know it's not exactly on the way, but it's well worth the extra drive http://****************.com/smile/emthup.gif
If you are going through Kansas (also not on the way) let me know cause I'm about ready to pack up and move back to the South West!
