I wonder what the risk of DVT is from sitting in a car seat this long every day...

...anyway, this is the one of the more interesting posts/threads I've come across on TCL lately.
Probably not a lot of risk given that it's basically impossible to be seated for more then 4-5 hours without needing to get out, fill up, pee, etc

I'm not sure of the degree of risk, but long car travel does increase it. In the ED where I work, one of the screening questions for this kind of thing is whether you've recently gone on a long trip by car, a long flight etc. Basically anything where you're seated in a confined space for hours on end, especially when you might drive 4-5 hours, get out for 5-10 minutes to refuel/pee, then get back in and do that again repeatedly.

Not to mention, with this gentleman, it's not a one time 4 hour trip and done. He's spending a lot of cumulative time in one position seated in a car, day in and day out, week in and week out, over the long term. I don't think that's the healthiest thing ever.

I've actually seen a number of people test positive for PE in our emergency department after extended car travel or air travel.

I'm not implying that driving a car = pulmonary embolism, but I bet there is somewhat of a risk involved with this much driving. I'm certainly not an expert on the matter, just thinking out loud from what I've seen in the ED.

Interesting that he only had to change clutch packs twice on that period. A conventional clutch would have had to be changed maybe twice that amount?

I'm assuming the majority of the miles he put on the car were highway miles with very little shifting, which wouldn't wear out a conventional clutch either

Goes to show that even tin can Fiestas can be very reliable in our era of cars now. Everyone is always afraid of making 100k miles when doing so in pretty much any car is possible (yes, even the RX-8).

Since almost all of the mileage was presumably highway mileage, the clutch linings on a dual-clutch automatic or manual transmission should last far more miles than on a car used mainly for city driving.

Unless it's a large, square box, I would bet the sedan has larger storage area. The hatch is tiny.
This is quite true. That said, I've seen references to folks with various hatchbacks removing the back seats and turning the whole back into a flat load floor. In the Fiesta's case, simply folding the seats doesn't help, as the rear seat bottoms don't tip forward to allow the seatbacks to drop flush with the rest of the rear floor. There's about a 4 inch step from the hatch floor area to the folded down rear seats.

That's kinda what I was thinking...

I guess his wife is pretty low maintenance too, or she gets serviced elsewhere.
Wow. Unless she's on his maintenance program, too.
