ok guys just wondering on some opinions and such on this topic. My friend who has a stock 87 rx7 says it will out handle my jetta which has H&R race springs and tokico hp shocks/struts.the rx7 is as close to the ground as my car but my wheel well gap is none compared to 2 inches for him.i've never really gotten on it in turns with my car yet and it's side lined now but he seems to think that his car will out handle mine.what do you guys with more experience think?the cars weigh virtually the same on paper.thanks.may be a dumb ? but just wondering. Also what makes people say that vw's handle so well?thanks.

Re: jetta/gti vs. rx7 handling (jetmk2)

good call the on the FWD and RWD, but the thing is on sharp turns if his back starts to slide out he has to let off, you on the other can just mash it and it will straighten out.

might as well just race him an find out http://****************.com/smile/emthup.gif

two different types of handling cars, rwd and fwd.

not to mention a 2 seater vs. a 5 seater/4 dr.

in your guy's opinions though do modified jetta/gti's handle better then alot of other brands of cars?i've only driven vw's and plan to keep it that way.i always read that mk2's handle so great and i agree but i don't have experience with other cars to justify.

Re: jetta/gti vs. rx7 handling (jetmk2)

actually no i haven't.My 88 jetta compared to my 86 which was stock handles much better but that's all i really can compare to.i definitley think the rx7 can makes way tighter turns then my jetta though.

Ive only been to acouple of auto X's but the RWD cars dont do that good, there were mustangs, a newer style rx-7, ect and my firends stock 90 Golf beat them all and almost beat a brand new WSX STi, lost by .9 tenths of second. I didnt get a chance to race mine due to my motor mount being broke!

you can counter most mistakes with throttle, brakes and steering, with RWD or FWD... only hindrance facing the the FWD car is that it is turning, accelerating and braking with the same two wheels, whereas on a RWD you have the rear power wheels and front turning wheels. the front tires on a FWD car are overworked and will always have that disadvantage against the RWD car.

Re: jetta/gti vs. rx7 handling (jetmk2)

Between the two cars with two equally skilled drivers (People alaways seem to figet how much this plays into these things) chances are the RX7 will take the flag. RWD cars are great, and if you know how to handle one in corners and such, FWD cars will have a tough time keeping up. Not to mention that the RX7 is generally a much quicker car anyhow...

wow, I don't even know how to comment about this post. Your talking about a sports car, pretty much designed for handling and speed of course, to a 4 door sedan designed to get groceries. Now I have a jetta i might be able to out handle, forget it probally not, maybe keep up if my handling is maxed out and the rx-7 is stock, just my opinion. On the other hand my NSX will out handle that rx-7 http://****************.com/smile/emthup.gif

Re: jetta/gti vs. rx7 handling (nickinboston)

Having both an RX7 and several MKII's, the RX7 is a better handling car overall. Its all about driver skill in the end though, I've seen plenty of fast car get spanked by low power FWD cars on an auto-x course.

Re: jetta/gti vs. rx7 handling (jetmk2)

then why have i read people comparing a2's handling to a porshe?i'm comparing my car with my xflow motor to an 87 stock 1.3 non turbo motored rx7.just wondering your guy's opinions becuase my friend and i always argue about this.most people say that vw's with suspension mods handle like they're on rails and can spank most cars so i was just wondering your guy's opinions.i also know that the driver has alot to do with it.let's say drivers of equal skills then... http://****************.com/smile/emthup.gif
